Z4 M Roadster in Imola Red... Detailed *Revisited*

looks amazing, the red looks totally transformed... how did you remove the swirls from the rear lights? One of mine has the same issue.. i was thinking something like megs plastx?

Looks an amazing job, I would never have thought about using 303 0n my interior parts I just use it for my engine.

Red always looks the best when its done.

My thoughts to a degree peddy but after talking with admin and mods this will all become more clearer come january.
Ive removed mine so its only fair others follow protocall.

scottbt, agree that others should do the same if you have to. My "why" was only to do with why they told you to do. :)

I used 3M FCP with a "4 spot pad then followed it up with Meguiars 205, PlastX is good but you can use any standard polish on rear lights. usually a medium abrasive polish is fine but if the plastic is quite heavily swirled then you may need something a little bit more abrasive like I did

Very nice job there that red paint really pops now and it just goes to show you do not need to spend a fortune on your LSP its all in the prep

Take it thats your E36 in the background looks clean

Yep the finish is all in the prep and the LSP only really accounts for the last 5% of the finish so spending £££'s on expensive waxes wont get you an amazing finish unless the prep work has been done properly..

Yep thats my E36 M3 in the background which i've had for about 6 years now and shes also in need of a mini detail before being tucked away :D

Happy to receive recommends on others work but this is a Forum for Zed owners to share their experiences, comments etc not a site for free advertising. If we let one in then we must do the same for all.

I was contacted by Ben again as the car had recently been to the bodyshop to have both the bumpers and some new aero side skirts re-sprayed and although the colour match and quality of the job was excellent it was the refining and finishing that needed a bit of work.

So it was these areas needing correction and a top up / enhancement detail for the rest of the car.

Not as many pics as usual but heres the car after a blast with magifoam.

Brand new genuine "19 CSL wheels which had quite a bit of build of brake dust but nothing that wasnt easily removed with the usual wheel tools, swissvax brush, EZ detail brush, Meguiars Wheel Brightner and G101 for the tyres and arches.

After cleaning and rinsing - nice and clean.

After a 2BM wash and rinse the car was clayed with bilt hamber regular and water as lube and this was picking up quite a bit of tar mainly from the lower areas

clay1.jpg

Once clayed the car was dried with Optimum Instant Detailer as a drying aid and large microfibre drying towel.

The car was then rolled inside to asses the defects.

A few light swirls on the bonnet

Which were taken care of using Menzerna PO203s

The front bumper had a few more than light marks...

bumper2.jpg

These were buffer trails that had been left in the paint by the bodyshop and were removed with a couple of hits of Menzerna IP 3.02 on a polishing pad followed by 3M Ultrafina on a 3M blue finishing pad.

It was the same story for the newly painted wero side skirts too

And the rear bumper too!

I also noticed the rear lights were looking quite swirly so gave these a polish with a spot pad and menz ip 3.02

The rest of the panels were corrected with Meguiars 205 on a polishing pad with some areas needing Menz IP 3.02

After the polishing / refining stages the car was given an IPA wipedown before having a coat of victoria Concours applied as the LSP.

wheels were polished with lime prime and sealed with FK1000P, tyres with chemical guys new look trim gel and exhausts with autosol

The interior was cleaned too with a thorough vaccum of the interior carpets and mats. The mats were also cleaned with the wet and dry vac and leather cleaned and conditioned with gliptone.

Good work, liking that. Car's looking really good. I find it's actually details like cleaning the lights that makes the real difference, the bits not usually done

Just one question, do you actually have a gravel drive or did that lot come from the engine bay? :poke:
