Z4 M options/value

I don't have nav :( but I wasn't too bothered as it has the dsp stereo upgrade, cruise, Bluetooth, heated seats, storage pack, wind deflector,pdc,cd changer, folding mirrors...although because PVR is so passionate about nav I wished I had it!

I will just have to accept I am in the flimper club :oops:
 
My previous Z did not have the satnav, so when I retro fitted it, it was like having a new car :)

Best toy value ever ....

With an Intravee, the options on what you can do are almost endless.

I agree, not having nav doesn't make the best of those two options, I have nav in my 5 series I would get lost without it!

I suppose I only use the zed as an occasional car so nav isn't that important to me.

I have to agree with you. I have the same generation satnav in both my M5 and my wife's Mini Cooper S and it really is pants. You have to twist and click a hundred times just to enter a destination address; entering favourites is really awkward; you can't get speed camera warnings without buying an illegally hacked map disk. We have a TomTom and use it in whichever car we are taking. I therefore had no real desire to have the BMW satnav in my Z - especially as the pop-up screen in the Z's is said to be problematic and expensive to fix (not that I've seen too many mentions of problems on this forum, to be fair).

Heated seats - I absolutely hate the feeling of these and never use them (the M5 also has them). Unfortunately my wife loves them, so I had to get a Z with heated seats - but the driver's side is unused :-)

Cruise control - the only time I'd use it is in long sections of roadworks where there is a reduced speed limit and lots of cameras. The rest of the time I prefer to use my right foot to control my speed.

The only option I really, really wanted in my Z4 was the ///M engine!

The loom and control stalk is less than £100 isn't it ? Then find a nearby forum member to help install, job done. PVR's going to do that to my current car for me :wink:

It's different for the ///M Bing, there's a company in the North East that does it iirc, they have to splice into the loom in the engine compartment I think, it's about £350 ish

have crusie...but hate it cos i feel like im just holding on for the ride....
have heated seats.....ive never used it
got bluetooth....used it once....
got sat nav, used it when i first got the car, but not having full postcode is a bit rubbish, got a top gear tom tom so dont use it anymore

im not sure how much the value would decrease had it none of the toys...

Agreed. I realistically cant see anyone going to buy one of these cars, sucking their teeth and saying 'unfortunately you don't have a 6 year old piece of tech in your dash, -£500'. If they did I'd explain their foolishness and ask them to jog on. :evil:

But they do, look at the buyers threads people really um and arr about everything and it will be the difference between buying it and not!

It just being an M is not enough for I would say 90% of potential buyers! Read these stories over and over again people wont buy the cars over the stupidest of reasons.

Could put it another way... it doesn't even have sat nav... and its an M. If you've been dreaming about a car for so long people will wait until they find the perfect one.
 
And the screen is not just satnav remember, your phone book, radio stations, iPod control, extra board computer functions and so on.

If you want really purist, you would buy a Caterham 7 or so :)

Just a wee point - stupid to YOU maybe, but not to them. It's their dream, their money, and everyone is different. Oh, and you are not doing them a favour selling it to them...

Your last sentence hits the nail on the head though :

This is absolutely the point - you cannot ridicule a buyer for having different tastes to you, and like it or not the lack of nav or DSP, or a carbon leather dash (personally wouldn't buy an ///M without this) makes a car worth less than exactly the same age / spec / condition car that does have what they want, to the person who is looking, even if it is just a couple of hundred quid.
 
I wasn't trying to say buyers were stupid, I was arguing against the above point,

The spec is important and people wont buy as they expect these higher end cars to have the spec, and that this forum is a good example of how picky people really are. So to assume that you'll have no issue selling a car with low spec is false from what Ive seen on here over the last 18 months.

The purist view in this case in invalid IMO unless you are after a track focused car, in real conditions the weight differences wont be noticeable but you are seriously reducing your potential buyers without the toys.
