Just purchased an M bumper from ebay, but it comes with no grilles

Anyone know where is cheap to buy the middle grill & two brake ducts or is a main dealer job?

Any help is welcomed :D

Mike

the top grills from any z4 bumper will do, always plenty on eBay

Ducts etc will be a dealer job

Not all Z4 grills look the same though. The ///M has black slats with a chrome suround, whilst some other models have silver colour slats and a chrome surround. Beware the ebay cheap crap all-black plastic non-OEM rubbish...

About £100 all in from the dealer... for the center grill, the 2 brake ducks and their brackets.

Worth also considering the front undertray aswell as the M bumper is shorter on the bottom to the non M's.

Got mine fitted this week.

Don't suppose you have the part number and a rough price to hand do you?

ive already got the kidney grills so they will be a straigth swap. It was the lower grill i was talking about

Cheers for the help, think i best consider this undertray too, or I may attempt to make a joining undertray out of some ally or plastic if i can get hold of some

Yeah, I realised that, but I wasn't sure if the OP realised that they come in different colours dependent on car and spec.

No worries, we both go the wrong grill anyway :)

Jeez, didn't think you needed the undertray, I wasn't going to replace it. Whats the price on the undertray?

I got the centre grill from eBay BRAND NEW for £6, so was a bargain 1 bid sale!

You can save some cash by not buying the two metal brackets for the side ducts, as from all accounts the ducts are very secure without them, and I think they're about £40's worth so a saving can be made there.

I've got mine all ready, just needs spraying but cant find the time to get it done :? (and now the undertray too!)

The M undertray was £70ish from sopers

My old non M tray was ripped from its mounts while doing a country side hoon

I was just lucky it didn't get caught under the front wheels...

In short the 3 inch gap sucks the air in, but once above the tray is has no where to go and so forces the back of the tray down, so breaking out of the mounts (which are £25 each)

If you have converted to an M bumper you would be wise to get the M Undertray aswell

PS you do need the brackets for the air ducts as these too will move and be ripped from the mounts at higher speeds - no point penny pinching on upgrades such as these

The US thread I read states they're not needed, and I agree, as they're held on quite securely in the hatch in the wheel arch liner, and the other end sits behind the bumper opening. I can't possibly see where they could go, and the joint between the bracket and the duct is minimal anyway. Its not like the duct could be pushed through a smaller hole than itself and into the wheel, and its a duct, it allows the air through it so the forces on it are less.
Like I say, this is what others have stated when doing the conversion.

Personal choice, but I guess £40 for the brackets is cheaper than being left with broken air ducts that have damaged their mounts beyond repair

I may just be too cautious, but if they were not essential why didn't BMW save on cost and weight and not fit them to the M...

I agree about the bracket to some extent... the brake ducts are very secure without the brackets.. they dont move at all..... however the only thing holding them against the bumper is in the arch liner.... one big stone, breaking your arch liner and goodbye brake duct... so as ranski says for the sake of £40 its worth it
