Z4 M coupe

Hi guys
im new on here and i have a serious urge to own a Z4 M coupe, i get all kinds of people telling me the servicing and running costs are horrendus, strangly its all by people who dont have one, please can someone who owns one let me know the typical service costs for minor and major service and the intervals
plus while im here, is there anything i should be aware of when looking around

12000-15000 miles - Oil Service - £200
24000-30000 miles - Inspection I - £600
36000-45000 miles - Oil Service - £200
48000-60000 miles - Inspection II - £1000

You can get the oil service for a bit cheaper and you can get the Insp2 for a lot cheaper, if you shop around. Other than that, Tony is spot on.

EDIT: Beaten to it ;)

There are quite a few threads on it, but it depends on whether you use main dealers or independents and is identical to an E46 M3. Service is interval based. When the service guage is reset you have 15k between services, but it is based on the consumption of 500 gallons of fuel. If you drive it harder, the service comes around faster. Most seem to be at about 12k, many cars are done sooner that that if not driven much. The pattern is (based on 12k intervals):

1200 Running Service (free and pretty essential for resale - check the service book)
12,000 Miles - Oil Service £180-£220
24,000 Miles - Insp 1 £600-£850
36,000 Miles - Oil Service £180-£220
48,000 Miles - Insp 2 £800-£1200

....and repeat. The price ranges show roughly the top and bottom end numbers quoted for various dealers on here over the years. Some will price match, others won't. Independent garages will be a lot cheaper; I think the likes of Thorney Motorsport and Birds, for example, will do an Insp 2 for £550? But check with them of course.

Tyres: Rears about 10-12k miles, fronts about 22k

Brakes: about 35-40k. Pads all round £150, discs all round if needed about £600.

It's in the top road tax bracket (£440) and your insurance will be a bit more than a 3.0, but I don't think it's all that bad. It's a 343BHP car at the end of the day. At least it doesn't need a service every 5k (Lancer Evo 400) or a new clutch every 12k (Maserati Gransport Cambiocorsa). Z4Ms are really cheap right now so that offsets the running costs anyway IMO.

Don't think those prices should put anyone off buying an 'M'

Road tax is less than 3 pints of beer a week.
Sandwiches at work for my lunch cost more than the services for my car (and I have cheap sandwiches).
My wife sends more on shoes in a year than I spend on tyres.
A cheap weekend break costs more than a set of brake pads for the Z4M.
I spend more on fuel for the house than fuel for the car (and the house doesn't move much)

I had to think hard to arrive at those figures. I'm not by any means a high earner and I don't notice the costs of running the Z4M.

Its a 343BHP premium brand car that has lost less in value in 12 months than any of my friends or neighbours cars that are mundane.

Don't let life get in the way of living!

im just coming up to a year of owning my Z4MC i think i need plastic surgery everytime i get in it i just :D like ive been hit in the head with an axe ! still remember my first morning woke up went downstairs didnt even start him up just sat giggling like a loon for a full 5 mins at least ! ive had some heavy modded motors that were quick but believe me those M boys in germany know their saurkraut ! drive it buy it love it ! just make sure you get a real M with a roof !     :poke: :poke: :poke: :poke: :fuelfire:

I've had mine for three and a half years and I still love driving it, 25,000 miles so far and all it's had is a set of rear tyres. Mechanically it's not even had a bulb replaced. These cars are very well sorted, very fast (sub 5 seconds to 60) and great fun to drive.

Of course the best bit is lowering the roof on a sunny day and listening to those sports exhausts wake up the neigbours :poke:

Thanks guys not so bad then, the type 2 is a bit steep but its not like i will do more than 1 or 2 at the most, im currently driving an S2000 with Rotrex charger putting 390 bhp out the back wheels so next step is to drive a Z4 and make sure its right for me, i know its a step down in power but im guessing the torque more than makes up the difference of the few HP its missing as the 0 to 60 times are similar
this stage of "owning" a car is almost as good as actually owning it

The M is more a drivers car. With the S2000, you have to rev the nuts off to get the performance which is not the case with the M.

The M isn't really torque monster it's still a high revving engine at the end of the day but it sounds great.

When you drive it you will probably have issues with the gear change especially 1st to second. This issue can be solved by removing the CDV, £30, 15 minute job so bare that in mind.

I came from a (standard) S2000 to the Z4M and they're totally different beasts, Z4M so much more refined and brutal at the same time, but is more expensive to run. Love it...

On a similar note i went for a spirited drive with a mate who owns an S2000. Those things got some grip i tell you! Very impressed with the Honda's pace on real roads. I was following him and was trying to hear him heel-toe, listen to some of that screaming VTEC noise but sadly my RPI's dominated the experience. He later said that he could hear me more than he could hear his own car. :P

alfamale after your supercharged S2000 i think you'll be finding the Z4M a bit slow. I think you should go on a nice long test drive to completely make up your mind about it.

well i looked at 3 over the weekend and have provisionally said yes to one of them, its a a good honest car no signs of abuse, i would say its a much easier car to drive than the S2000, to get the power out of the S you have to ring its neck but i do agree in the right hands on twisty roads they will humble a lot of exotic machines, they will also swap ends in a heartbeat if you dont know how to drive a RWD without TC, my S has 160 BHP at 6krpm and 385 at 8850rpm so you can imagine to keep it in the power is a hectic experiance
my imprsion of the Z4 M coupe is its a much more refined car and deceptively fast as it gets there with very little fuss, it may seem like a quick descision afte only posting on Friday but this has been simmering on the back burner for months after i saw one in the flesh near were i live, i looked into price and asked around on running costs etc then left it for a while to make sure it was for me, after driving it i would say its exactly what i wanted, looks and sounds fantastic goes like hell without a lot of fuss, i liked the ride even though the press slated it for being to harsh and its relatively rare so not likely to end up parking next to one. I would say its a logical step up from the S2000 and i could always keep the rotrex for a rainy day if i miss the few horses but i have promised not to play too much with this one
