Hi There Chaps,

Please can you advise me on the following warning lights:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMiD0XNpYCo

I drove the car this morning after 4 days, did everything as per normal (start, let it idle, warm up then start driving slowly until car reaches operating temps) i was also cruising along and then hit some bumper to bumper traffic, while sitting in the traffic, Every time i moved the car (1st gear only) a few meters and the RPM hits around 3000, these warning lights came on... They go off almost immediately afterwards but when you hit 3000 again they quickly display again and then go off...

It did this about 6 times, and then after i passed the traffic congested areas, it was driving fine again with no warning lights.... I'll have to monitor it going home to see if it happens again.

Could this be something loose? or not properly making contact?

anybody here experience this before?

The car is on 108000 KM's and very well maintained, service, Rod Bearings, Vanos referbished and valve clearances where done about 2500km's ago.

Thanks in advance

Is the battery old, as when on the way out you can get all sorts of warning lights for no reason, or if new is it getting good charge from the alternator

Hey Buddy, the Battery is old... I dont know when the previous owner had it changed. I have a multimeter so i can check the voltage on it... Do you know what the voltage should read on the battery? between 11.5v - 12.8v ok?

From memory I don't but there are some posts on here with some good information as to volts whilst engine off , running , an u see load, I'll see if I can find any

Thanks Mark, I was able to find it online... while car is off it should be around 12.5-12.8. On startup it should drop a bit but recover around 14.5v on idle.

I'll check the voltage on my Z tonight and see if its the battery causing the warnings.

i came across this thread whereby they had the same symptoms and it was alternator/regulator related.
putting it here for future reference: https://www.bmwcca.org/forum/index.php?t...ash.13816/
