Z4 M Coupe Wanted

Hi guys,

Having finally settled in the new job, sold the old Zed and got the cash sitting where I need it, it's time to find a Z4 MC.

I am not overly fussy, there are only a couple of requirements I really need it to meet and even on those I may be flexible.

Colour: Blue, Black or Grey (pretty simple)
Mileage: <50k
FSH
Heated sports seats

Asides from that I am very much open to suggestions.

If anything comes up, please let me know! Budget approx £16k.

Thanks

What is your budget Phil?

How about this one?

Drove past it on the way to work today, looks a nice example

Out of interest Phil did i send you a tool kit and bits for the sticky steering problem for your old zed? If i did and you have it can i have it back please??

That is a great looking example Steven!

I had pencilled in a budget of roughly £16k but there is scope for movement on that. Still think that one might be a bit hefty on the price side?

I missed out on an absolute gem from Mike it seems, didn't get back on the forums soon enough and it has now gone to a dealer. His asking price was just below £15k and it had <40k.

Yeh, Mikes did seem to be the exception as opposed to the rule. Given the way prices have been for the past 18 months or so, cars similar to mikes have been towards the £17k mark and importantly selling at those prices too.

I think £16k will definitely get you into a decent ~50k example.

James Paul's is higher, but then they are a trade seller and not private so the car will come with warranty and all the usual trade toys. Personally I think they've pitched it about right and if you could get it for £17.5k you'd have a decent deal (of course if a warranty is not required, i'd stay away from any trade dealers as they will be more expensive).

Mark's car will be listed by a dealer at £18k+.

As a buyer I've always been wary of cars that are priced noticeably lower than the rest of the market....a bit of a "if it looks too good to be true...." kind of thing. Let's face it all sellers are going to want to achieve the best price they can, so why would they choose to price it £2-3k lower than comparable cars?

Anyway, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Cheers for all of that Steven. If anything pops up, let me know.

I am also considering a Cayman S, but at the minute the Z4 MC is winning the battle.

I'm also looking to buy and would have probably bought Mike's car but it had gone 3 years without an oil change, twice.
I've seen a long gap between servicing on a few low mileage cars since I've been looking.

Good luck with your search Phil.

SH is a prominent issue with these cars as I've experienced when looking it seems owners get confused with BMW's schedule.

Well it's a bit ambiguous, that's the issue.

Take my car as an example. It has done just under 38k and has 8k until Inspection 2 but will need a service and brake fluid change by October because it will be 2 years since the last Oil Service. Now in the past I would automatically have had an Oil Service again because by October I will have only done another 1,000 miles max. But, according to BMW, I should have an Inspection 2 even though it isn't due, because that would be the next service due if you follow the Oil, I1, Oil, I2 sequence. So I am in a bit of a quandary really. Do I do Oil Service, and if I do does this maintain my FSH or do I just bite the bullet and get the I2 done instead? I've decided I'm going to email BMW HQ and pose the question.

OG,

I would of thought yours needs an Inspection II if that is what the next logical one should be (based on 2 years or mileage whatever comes 1st). If your were buying it from a main dealer, then you would expect them to do the Insp II and not settle for an Oil service, right?

It's quite simple. At this stage you only need an oil service. If you are going to do 8k in way less than 2 years then consider the Inspection II now, but otherwsie wait till you hit the mileage.

@Ninarvana - It's not just owners that get confused, dealer don't know either.

I think the big problem with owners is the cars going 3-4 years without a service because they haven't met the inspection mileage.

Oil service / brake fluid needs to be at least every 2 years, however Inspections are mileage based and not time.

My car has covered 29k is due it's next service in Jan when mileage will be ~35k...oil service last time and technically will only require an oil service this time, However, I'm going with an Insp II for her to have a proper check over....but it isn't required strictly by the service schedule.

Jess, you could negotiate with dealers, but until the car reaches ~40 - 45k mileage it probably won't require the Insp II

Steve as SRHutch says, oil/brake fluid until you hit the service indicator mileage  mines due oil/BF this September, last done in September 2012, about 4000 miles ago, I've got about 7000 miles until I2 or 2 yrs
