Z4 Lurker... Now Is The Time To Buy! (I Think...)

I instantly missed heated seats when I bought my current car without them.

I completely understand what you mean!

I must be getting soft, but agree fully. It was on my last 335 when I purchased (at 1 year old) and it got used so much it's now been specified on both cars for 2015 :D

I would say if you're being specific (and nothing wrong with that) perhaps not worry too much about wheels? Most wheels on the E89 look really good, but if you see a car that is excellent bar the wheels - they are ludicrously easy to change!

Mad how many people I've seen not choose a perfect car "because of the wheels".... they do come off!

Is right, mine's got 17" 292s don't like them but will change in the spring, just a matter of waiting till the right ones come along...

You may have to up your budget to get exactly what you want or change a few items on the car after buying.
If you want a hard top convertible its an E89 as has been said and it will be from 2009 onwards.
This one is quite close to what you are looking for but has 17" wheels , a 2.5L engine and higher milage than some but the cheapest around.

Ooo, yes – at £12k that does seem to be a lot of ticks in the box.

However, my big draw to the Z4 *is* the 3.0L engine. (Is it a twin turbo?)

Whats the big difference between the 2.5 and 3.0? Is it worlds faster?

The fastest car I've owned was a 2.8 Turbo – and that was immense.

My current 2.0L has been remapped and is ‘nippy’ but no where near the acceleration of the 2.8

I'm obviously not looking to kill myself – nor collect any more points on my license, but I do like to have “get out of trouble” speed – and the ability to nip through gaps etc.

Generally, I just like a bit of poke in my motors.

I'm told the 3.0 remaps well – would the 2.5 be equally the same? Any 2.5 owners have a remap?

I remember back when I was looking at getting a Z3, I was told to stay well clear of the 2.2 and *only* get the 2.8 – because the 2.2 was notoriously bad in comparison.

I didn’t get either in the end, but now I've waited and waited and waited – the Z3 has died out – long live the Z4…

Its time to get a Z4!

PS That car is 300 miles away. :headbang:

Also, I noticed that the "Experts Review" on AutoTrader states that one of its flaws is "Thirsty petrol engines"

Does the 2009/E89 come in a Diesel option?

I dont think I can go back to Petrol on big engines - as the aforementioned 2.8T that I had was a petrol - and some journeys being single digit MPG *really* hurts your wallet after a while.

Novelty can only last so long :D

There is no diesel option in the Z4 (thank f**k) in my old 2.3i I got low thirty's mpg ,higher on the motorway
Getting mid to high twenty's in my 3.5i
I'm guessing the 3.0l engine will be in the middle of that :)

Ah, I have seen some diesels, but I think you're right when it comes to the E89/2009.

This is the closest I've found recently:http://www.motors.co.uk/car-36622354/0/srs

However, boring interior and a bit top end.

When did they stop the Diesel engine? If I had the choice between the power metal roof over diesel... The roof would win.

But then I'm back in the world of £80 full ups lasting 300 miles.

Eugh.

all z4 variants have been petrol engined, no diesels have ever been fitted (thank the lord) driven sensibly they are good on fuel consumption for what they are.
Have another read up of those links regards different models so you know exactly what the choices are for you to choose from.
regards

Doh. Another fail.

People are talking mid-high 30s, which I can live with... But can people confirm that.

My maths on this sort of thing is always rusty - but I pay about £85-90 to fill my 70 litre tank. Which gets between 500-700 depending on how I drive. So thats 32-45 MPG or 129-17p per/mile.

Could I get a nice selection of Z4 drivers details on the above? And, how you drive it.

Im quite an impatient/quick driver... I like to get from A to B in the shortest and easiest amount of time!

E85 : canvas roof, folds away and doesn't take up any boot space. No diesel variant

E89 : metal folding roof, folds into boot and uses a lot of space. Also no diesel.

These are important factors to remember as your spec seems to jump between one and the other.

If you're talking £10k then I'd be surprised if you can find an E89 for that sort of money or at least one without mega miles or accident damage.

Like the others have said, perhaps read the links again so you know what you're after. If it's an E89 with a semi decent spec then you'll need to up your budget.

However, if you're ok with an E85 3.0si then £10k will find you a decent one with a nice number of options I'm sure.

Good luck with the search.

I said something along these lines, but wasn't quite as tactful. It got deleted by a mod

I had to amend my first comment simonlpearce. I was quite frustrated after reading this thread...
