Z4 - Loving it!

Hey guys,
New to the board, i'm from Milton keynes and i've had my Z4 28i 2013 since December but i have loved every minute of it. Done just under 10K miles.

I previously had a 1.6 mini cooper - this thing sure as hell flies in comparison! Anyway, i have a few questions i hope you guys could help me with:

  • How do i find out what model my car is? (ie. E89?)
There doesn't appear to be a dip stick to check oil? Is this true and its based on CPU instead?
Where is the best place to buy a Aux In cable? I want to play music from my phone - what do you suggest?
Does anyone know where i can get black powdered wheel finish?
What are the main differences with sport mode, sport mode without traction and comfort?
Does anyone know where i can find an e-version of the handbook?
Does anyone know why after sitting at a junction when stop-start is active (So engine is off), that the engine will start up again suddenly without any involvement from myself?
Does anyone know how to use the computer properly? Ie. any hidden systems and settings i can get access to? Ie. check oil/adjust service requirements

Attached are some pics!

Welcome to the world of Z4 ownership!

It is definitely an E89 as it has the metal folding roof. Previous generation were E85 for convertible and E86 for Coupe.

My E86 doesn't have a dipstick - you press a button next to the trip reset but on yours it may be different.

E-bay is probably your best bet for a handbook, or someone on here may send electronically.

Aux in cable, again the bay of E is probably your best bet.

Stop/start is programmed to monitor battery charge, temperature and electrical demand, so in cold weather it doesn't operate and on a day like today if you have the air-con working it may stop but re-start before you move to avoid the battery getting drained. Personally I would turn stop/start off if I had it again - I'm sure it cost me a battery (£300) and starter motor (£600) on my 123d!

Sorry I cannot help with your other questions as I don't have an E89, but someone else will be along soon - by the way for help with the wheel finish it would help if you said where you were in the UK!

Hi,

Welcome aboard. It's an E89 you have. Yes no dipstick in BMW petrol engines and hasn't been for some time, you check via the onboard computer or the iDrive if you have it when the engine is warm. It won't give a reading before this.

Aux cable can be purchased on eBay, Amazon or from BMW but you'll pay a premium from them for the same as elsewhere.

Google for a E89 manual and you'll find one. That's where I located mines.

Venture into the E89 area and search for what you are after. Lots of questions you've asked have been covered there.

As for how to access the onboard computer, you drove a mini as in a BMW mini so you had an onboard computer where you accessed it from the indicator stalk, it's the same on the e89 or again if you have iDrive you can look there.

I strongly suggest you look at the handbook that came with the car. You've had the car since December, so 6 months now you should have looked at it by now!

Unless your servicing the car yourself why would you want to access the 'hidden' menu which incidentally was mentioned in the E89 section the other day.

Start here, you'll get a lot of answers to your questions and some you've not yet asked http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=23
