Z4 Let down, maybe a 350Z?

I've just seen a pic of the boot, what the hell? Who on earth decided that rather than have a decent load space, they thought it would be clever to put a sodding great brace across the rear towers?!!? That throws a major hinderance, we're due a nipper and I couldn't even get a little pushchair in the back of that! Hell, I can do it in the SLK and thats a smaller car! :thumbsdown: ]

Hmmm, the Z4 Coupe might be a problem then? And the Z4M definitely would be!

We have the battery in there, hence that lump on the right...3.0 doesn't so a bit more space, but a buggy might be tight? No experience there tho

They now do a 2.0T Quattro, was considering one for my next car but theres too many on the roads around my way and i like to be abit different.

I found the new TT to be more expensive and less equipment compared to the Z4Coupe

You can get much smaller batteries as a mod and shrink this down heaps, never had an issue with mine.

Yep, and supposed to be a better drive than the 3.2 - down to the weight saving having the smaller engine I guess. Is it wrong that I quite like the new TT?

I love the 350Z and nearly got a 300 GT but the running cost put me of in the end. Tax was £400 a year and the mpg is way to low for all the town driving i do. I love the Nismo kit aswell, its not boy racer and to over the top.

Same here too. A 350z (Coupe, not the Roadster) was on my shortlist of cars to test-drive, I went as far as having a good poke around one at the Nissan dealer but discounted it before even driving one, mainly down to the running costs:
- official mpg 24.8 vs 31.1 for my 3.0i, that's an extra £300 over 7,500 miles (£1100 vs £1400 at prices 14 months ago)
- road tax £245 vs £455 (from April 2010)
- tyres cost more on the 350z if you go non-runflat on the Z4
- insurance was neglible for me

Badge snobbery doesn't come into it for me, but the interior was horrid compared to the Z4 IMO. And up close the exterior wasn't that great either - doesn't come close to the Z4. Of course, the 350z is supposed to be a better drive if you believe evo magazine, but I couldn't justify the extra running costs.

x2. It was between a Z4, the Nissan, a RX8 and an S2000 for me. The Z4 won through as it is easily the all rounder and cheapest to run of the bunch (and by far the best looking).

In terms of speed - there's a 5th gear episode which compares them - they do a run comparing performance, the difference is so small as to really make no difference at all. I tihnk the Nissan may feel a bit faster as it is simply less refined. For a roadster that does 60 less than 6 seconds, it really is very refined.

Remember - when you want to feel how fast the Z4 3.0 Si is - get those revs up - beyond 5500 it turns almost VTEC like, changing character and going much much harder. I think the Nissan has more shove low down in the range, but then less up top (and loses refinement up there too).

Also weirdly, I found the Z4 to be better value secondhand.

Not at all. I like them too.

A mate has a 2lt FWD and after driving it i was pretty impressed. It's fast and agile. Feels very fun to drive. His is slightly modded now and makes around 260hp and lovely wooshing sounds when you let off the gas. Even if they are based on Golf mechanicals they really are great little coupes. The base 2lt version is essentially a lighter sexier mk5 Golf GTI. Anyone who says they're crap should keep a more open mind. Not everything is about RWD and the fastest lap time. :driving:

Its not an M I'm looking at, so the boot thing in the 3.0 is about right. We do have a particulalry small buggy bought specifically for me to drop in the MB (missus is having some sort of McLaren F1 Turbo mega superseat with 18 inch farleys rusks and chewable spoilers).

Although I'm gonna be honest, what prat put the battery there in the M??!?! Seriously, the 3.2 aint THAT much bigger :rofl:

Went and had a look at a 350 this morning and come hell or high water, no buggy is going in the boot, at least, not in one bit, so in fact, all becomes a bit academic!

On with the search!

My z4C manages to house a 17" frame foldable mountain bike (look for swissbike) but just about. I've not put the folding pedal on it (might do it in the spring but was thinking it kinda defeats the purpose of having a mountain bike as most cheapish folding pedals aren't designed for off road) so if I do, I would think it will fit in comfortablly. So I think putting in a pram should be no prob.

Its only a 2 seater though - where are you going to store the baby when you get in the car with your missus :?

p.s. I mostly do stop/start town drive and most of my journeis are <5miles and I dive economically (I usualy dont drive long enough for engine to warm up). The 3.0si only manages 25mpg on those normal days.....

Ah so are these 32mpg claims a bit spurious? That said, <5 miles every day is bound to give crap mpg.

Only need the 2 seats, missus has the family car and she'll be doing all the ferrying about day to day, all I have to be able to do is get a kiddy seat in and little buggy in the back.

Dont know if my on board computer is a bit iffy though - today I went through lots of B roads and kept it mostly 4000-5000 revs. Admittedly not too much stop/start but still gave me 25mpg I had to admit the car felt fantastic and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face

I've been trying for months to convince him that a limited slip diff would greatly improve traction and off the line acceleration but he doesnt listen.
