Z4 journey.

Picked up a very well priced z4 3.0 auto. Lovely car but has a few issues. Got it from a nice chap who garaged it then drove it the 5.5 hours home. Drove without fault. I didn’t want 18’s but this came with a set of mv3’s on run flats and it actually rides extremely well so when the tyres are worn out standard ones might improve things further.

Faults and things to fix.

Error for abs sensor (fingers crossed easy fix)
Decent sized oil leak at the front
Filthy roof
Cloudy headlights

Have lots of plans to cruise and enjoy the old girl but also make improvements as I love a bit of oem+ ing.

Done a couple of jobs. Tackled the headlights and they’ve come out ok. Very yellow to pretty clear. Also attacked the roof drain plugs. Drivers side was blocked at the top with a bolt and mounds of crap and the passenger was blocked in the bottom bung. Washed them all clear so that was a weight gone as I haven’t even checked where the roof motor is but it works perfectly.

The brilliant Stuart also did a bit of coding for me to get the roof working on the remote which is fantastic of him and also helped me work out the faults.

Really want to sort the issues and get some heated seats installed and maybe a wind deflector but quite fancy having a go at making my own as wind deflectors are silly money second hand. After this cruise control needs fitting.

It’s a cheap car so I don’t plan on spending lots just want to show it some tlc and enjoy. Don’t have many pics but I’ll put up the few I have and I’ll upload more as things change.

Pictures taken without giving her a scrub so quite filthy. Managed to get the drains done seconds before the downpour.

The joys of the British weather . I`m sure someone else will say this so I will be the first .Its your car so your choice and I`m hoping this is on the list of things to do but please remove the blue and red on the front grilles it will look so much better

Yeah they are 100% on the chop list before I even went to view it but I’m prioritising heated seats first.

Edit. I may even have an old can of black spray in the shed.

Having now seen your car I think you should hold out on finding red seats tbh. My opinion obviously but red interior really suits Sterling Grey

Edit: Pearl grey, which is more white than grey, also works well with Sterling Grey.

Honestly I would have any colour apart from black. Never been keen on black interiors at all but then everyone says my taste is a bit old man as I love beige interiors, so much lighter.

Sterling grey looks really nice leather colour but I don’t think I’ve ever seen any until I searched.

How come not keen on red? This will be my third car and only for dry use and high days. I run bangers mainly and don’t mind this looking a bit shouty but if it’s gona look wrong I’ll stay away.

I meant to say 'hold out for' red seats

My preference in order would be:

Red
Blue
Pearl grey
Beige

Here is an example of pearl grey in a coupe:

I purchased a perspex window diffuser from eBay when I got my car a few years ago. Like you I only use my car on nice days and deflector still looks new and does it's job well

I've always tried to avoid black seats too - they just make the interior feel a bit gloomy to me. :(

I like all those options, but maybe in a slightly different order!

But there are so many other alternatives like the Bi-Colour options with black seat facings but bolster in Phoenix Yellow, Imola Red, Estoril Blue or Silverstone which are all New England leather that is also a step up from the standard Oregon leather.

Or you might get really lucky and find some Individual ones in Champagne, Caramel, Syrah Blue or Amarone that are also better quality leather, Nappa for these.

Anyway that's enough encouragement for spending for now.

You've made some good progress already apart from removing those M stripes from the grilles!

Your oil leak is probably the oil filter housing gasket, or possibly the cam-cover gasket. Cleaning all the oil off should allow you to see what is leaking.

Good luck getting it how you want it.

Someone’s punched my grills and seats.

The car is never really clean until you hoover with the seats out

Plus you get to claim the £1.26 in loose change that’s under there- it’s an old written charter

Well done buddy its a lovely car! These are still an absolute bargain.

Mine is heavily modified at this stage but the first thing I did (or paid someone to do in an Asda car park at 10pm🤣) was move the roof motor into the boot. This is an essential thing to do if you want it to last.

It may have already been done. Check if there is a patch of removable material on the left hand side of the boot just behind the passenger seat. If there is, remove it and you should see the roof motor.

I think I paid £100 or thereabouts to get mine moved. Well worth it.

Apart from that I think a light interior isn't a bad idea for a darker car, however on my silver 3.0i I do love the black.

Each to their own.

Enjoy your journey buddy!
