Z4 in the news

It's the driver not the car that causes the collision so can't see an issue with the report.....

Agree - it has nothing to do with BMW or Z4's, just an idiot driver.

If he were attempting to murder someone then he should have used a less forgiving passenger friendly front end :headbang:

I think we should probably be a bit less harsh with our judgements until we find out the full details too - Nobody has reported *why* the bloke was stood in front of his car and "trying to talk to him" yet. Could well have been hurling abuse or threatening him.

If I was an 18 year old in a flash car at 2am in North London and somebody was stood in front of my car shouting at me, I'd probably be a bit on edge...

Siftah - not intending my comment to be overly judgemental, rather gallows humour as op was suggesting the use of the Z4 was bad publicity. The report I read contained this:
"Police sources told the Press Association that Tittensor had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder."

Regardles of the circumstances there can little valid reason to use a car as a weapon and then drive off from hte scene, leaving someone in hospital with serious injuries.

Agreed, just not sure anything that's been reported suggests that just yet. Using the car as a weapon suggests intent and I don't think intent has been established :)

The other article posted reports it differently; http://www.aoltv.co.uk/2010/08/16/shameless-star-in-hit-and-run-arrest/?icid=main|uk|dl2|link2|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aoltv.co.uk%2F2010%2F08%2F16%2Fshameless-star-in-hit-and-run-arrest%2F

Hmm, I have been in a similar situation a few years ago, Granted it wasn't a BMW Z4 I was in, Driving through a small town and had the road infront of me blocked by 3 Very drunk lads who started pounding on the Bonnet I had my 2 girls in the back who were screaming, Could not reverse as another car up my ass. IF they had not got out of the way and had continued to give my kids nightmares I would not have thought twice about driving through them, and then when safe report it to the police. I am not suggesting this particular individual was right in what he did but the press seem more intent in the 2 links on reporting what type of car it was rather than the curcumstances that made him drive through the guy. I am with Siftah on this one, Lets not hang him until we have all the facts. Bear in mind he had his G/F with him and maybe feared for her safety, certainly My first thoughts are he was maybe being threatend in some way...
I think we all know that there are unfortunatly complete F**kwits in this world and sometimes they get what they deserve.

Agreed guys - Let's see how it pans out and what the true story and circumstances turn out to be.

Of course it makes good press to add a sports car and actor into the mix Vs just joe public in a Fiesta

That's what irked me really, the local press in Manchester (local radio news) reported with the same slant the BBC and others have taken. They seem to be using the angle that he's a young actor, driving a flash car and has attacked someone.

It irritated me as soon as I saw the link as I'd been discussing only this weekend with a friend about how the BBC seem to be taking the sensationalist approach to reporting news these days. This just seemed like yet another case of it...

The other thing the BBC will do (which also irritates me) is to update the original link once more information becomes available, so if anyone's reading this in the future and the original link turns into "poor innocent actor threatened by viscious thug", bear in mind you could be reading a totally different article to the one we're now discussing :)

well.. the article really annoys me too.

At no point in the article does it tell us which engine he has / alloys and whether he has a stubby or not :D

lol, well if he has a stubby then he's guilty of *something*, definitely ;)

Theres no way he was driving very fast if it was Kentish town high street. Its as bumpy as a farm track and extremely painfull to drive a Z4 down it even at 20 mph. Theres also a speed camera on it as well. imo, One of the worst high streets in North London in terms of its road surface.

That story isn't actually too bad for it, but one of the things that irritates me is how the press portray a car in road accident stories. In 99% of them, the type of car makes sod all difference but if it's anything like a beemer, Porsche, etc basically anything fast or desirable it often gets quoted badly. "Mr Blogs, driving his £100,000 Ferrari which is capable of doing 3 times the speed limit and accelerating to 60 in only 3 seconds had a minor bump at 30mph..."

For that reason, I'm guessing it's a 2.0l - the press would have been jumping all over it if it had been a 3.0l or an M!

:poke: I agree with Siftah. And Nosa. I read the both the BBC report and AOL report 5 minutes ago. The BBC report is definitely sensationalist - maybe not the first thing that comes to one's mind regarding the BBC. But reading this 'news' report certainly reminds me the BBC have been OTT in the way they report the story. It mentions the Z4 in the first sentence of the main story. Ridiculous. I bet you they wouldn't have even mentioned the car if it was a VW Passat or something boring.
The AOL report, on the other hand, is written in a more general, fair way, with less dramatic sentences.

If anything though, when I read the BBC report, the one big thing that stuck out in my mind, was, what on earth was the guy who was hit by the car, in the road in the first place, 'trying to talk' to the driver. Definitely something fishy there anyway.
