Z4 Hill Assist Not Working

I've just sold my 2009 plate Z4 and changed to a 2012 model. However, my other Z4 had the hill assist where there's a pause when you release the footbrake before the car moves and my new car doesn't....

What do I need to check to see what is wrong or it is not a standard thing you get with the Z4?

Both are manual cars?

Thanks

Garry

There’s quite a few posts in this section about it - listed in the spec for a while but not fitted to four cylinder cars, at least not at that time.

When they changed to 4 cylinder, they dropped hill assist, despite still listing it as standard equipment.

There was quite a cufuffle about it...me included! (I had a new 20i in 2011). It was in the brochure, on the website, but not the car!

Even my dealer wasn't aware, and when I complained, they said I should've checked! But it was listed as standard equipment, and the dealer didn't even know! Am I meant to check all things listed as standard...

I think some people at the time got about £300 compensation, but that was dealer specific.

My gripe at the time was that with the electronic brake it would be difficult to pull off on a hill without rolling, as you can't do a traditional "bite" point with the clutch (I thought) and there is a slight delay when releasing the handbrake.

When I got the car, I took it to a steep hill (quiet road) and practiced...within about 5 attempts I had it sussed, it really was not that difficult. Normal biting point still possible and with practice its possible to release the brake without rolling or it bonging at you. The only real hardship is having to do this when on even slight inclines.

Useful feature, i like it, so why did BMW drop it on later models.
I wonder if a bug in there was causing the eBrake failures.
