Z4 headlights dim, are Xenons too bright for other drivers?

Hello!

My 2003 Z4 has Xenon headlights. I have a small round dial on the right of my instruments.

The far left setting is headlights off
The middle one is some headlight which doesn't seem bright at all
The far right one is super bright (guessing these are the xenons)

I know this is a noob question, but is the far right setting going to blind oncoming motorists? I can't quite tell from looking at it and I don't want to go round blinding people. The middle setting just doesn't seem bright at all though.

I have auto-headlight setting on all the time (furthest left I think), and don't seem to be generally get complaints... Except when rising over a crest, but that's no different to other non-Xenon headlights... It's just jealousy I think... Unless you are on full beam of course...

I thought all Xenon equipped z4s had auto headlights.

But anyway....

Dial in vertical position = off
Dial at 1 o'clock position = sidelights
Dial at 2 o'clock position = dipped beam headlights
Dial at 2 o'clock position with indicator stalk pushed toward the binnacle = full beam headlights.

Is this your first car?

Only reason I ask is because it's pretty standard to have 3 settings (off, sidelights, dipped beam). Indicator stalk controls main beam and left of vertical is the auto setting.

OEM xenons within reason aren't blinding.

aftermarket retrofits may be blinding if:

-not installed properly
-not aligned properly
-dirty lamps
-used in reflector headlamps (all zeds are projector type)

Slight nitpick - you can buy aftermarket 'R' (reflector) masked xenon bulbs for cars which have reflector type lamps (like the early Lagunas and first gen BMW MINIs), just look for H7R rather than H7 etc
