Z4 headlamps look wonky

I am looking to purchase a z4m. I have noticed that the car I am looking at seems to have uneven gaps around the headlamps and bumper.

There appears to be no accident damage or paintwork and the car is hpi clear.

Is this normal and can they be adjusted.

Thanks for your help.

Regards
Andrew

Just because the car is HPI clear and no visible damage, doesn't mean it hasn't had an accident. Just that is hasn't had an insurance claim for an accident (ie it may have unrecorded damage).

I've not seen one with wonky lights, I suggest looking at another to make sure your eyes aren't wonky

Firstly welcome to the Forum.

There's a check list in my signature to run through for pre owned buys. Any bodywork gaps which shouldn't be there are the first potential indications of accident damage and as chrismann85 quite rightly says not all accident damage will go through an insurance company and be recorded anywhere. Ask the seller a direct question. If its a dealer get the name of the previous owner and ask them...... . If you are in any doubt WALK AWAY.

My first guess is that it had some sort of frontal impact and whoever fixed it didn't align the new lights properly.

Obviously, This may not be the only possible reason... I've opened my bumper and taken off my headlights twice since owning it, because I changed my headlights to clear ones.

Also are you talking of the difference in gap between each headlight or the gap across one headlight. if just across the one then it's normal.

The Z4 has quite big panel gaps all round really. Might not be anything to worry about. But you can adjust the position of them slightly with the front bumper of.

My headlights are slightly different though. But only noticed when i was putting my new bumper on. No evidence of any damage on mine, and everything is original etc. Its about 2mm different on the passenger headlight to the drivers side one.

And as Dreamer says, there are big gaps anyway, so most would never notice TBH.

But it begs the question, Why? And if there is a simple explanation then there should be no reason why the seller or previous owner shouldn't be prepared to explain. Once you've handed over you hard earned dosh and then find the problem the nonsense starts...

Before jumping to any conclusions go look at a couple of other zeds. Even zoom in on some shots on the forum here or Zeds for sale.

Any model will do as despite differences internally on the lights the external dimensions and shape and profile of all butting panels are identical.

From there you can guage if those you have seen are normal or have a problem.

Exactly what I said

When I had my Z repaired after a small bump I sent the car back 3 times because they couldn't straighten up the lights. In the end they managed but I'd say it's almost certainly a result of being repaired/replaced.
In order to straighten it, it's a bumper off job I'm afraid.
