Z4 Gearbox. what a pig!

Coming from the vw Corrado vr6 I have to say that I found the z4 to be quite notchy in first and second gear. It seems that it is the way the car is though.

It's clunky going from 1st to 2nd and vice versa. Almost feels like something is blocking it and that the shift will damage the gear box.

The other changes are much smoother.

No, just the bold bit - your description was spot on for what I notice in my Z4.

hey bras0782 - sorry, yes - only just noticed the bold bit! Mine is definitely loosening up, my car is on 7.5k miles

Just oyr of interest, is this only happening on the 3.0si models?

Nah, mine was a 2005 3.0. It's the same 'box anyway IIRC, just with a different final drive in the Si.

but do you think it is happening on just the 3.0 manual cars. Anyone with the same problem on the 2.0/ 2.5 etc?

Good thinking, maybe it is. The transmission on the 2.5/Si and 2.0 is the same, but different to the 3.0 and 3.0Si.
