Z4 G29 Delivery Delays

Hi Everyone
I have been reading the posts regularly since October when I joined, at the time it was to see who else was experiencing long delays for a G29.
The latest news is my car is now status 8200 - released to carrier - and is due to reach the dealer March 7th. I placed my order July 26th 2021, the original estimated delivery was October, by March 7th that will be 224 days if it does arrive by then. From reading through the posts it seems some Z4's ordered after mine have been delivered or are about to be delivered. Not been able to get any reasons for this, except the usual chip shortages statement, but surely this would delay all orders placed since last summer? I have even recently dropped into dealers in the general area who have a used Z4 in stock just to remind myself what I ordered, but seeing one in the metal just confirms it will be worth the wait.
Anyway, it will be a 22 plate, although it will have a cherished number, and so far it seems my chosen specification has not been downgraded.
Spec ordered - Z4 20i M Sport, Sapphire Black, Black Leather, Pro Pack, Visibility Pack, Comfort Plus Pack, Parking Assistant.
Really looking forward to getting back into driving with the roof down, its been almost 12 months since I sold the M240i convertible we had....
But that will change in 3 weeks :) :)
What can possibly go wrong :( :(

Can anyone advise on how to track the car to the port / its progress now it's on the way?

Cheers....

similar position, ordered 28th July. No news on a delivery date with a similar spec to yours. I have no idea when, or if it is coming.

Have you got the AG order number from your dealer? If you have this you can email BMW UK Customer Services direct they reply within 2 days and can advise on the status of your cars build.
It’s a 7 digit reference number.

hi Rad I've started a new thread with the timeline for mine so far, also I've added some details of how I found which ship it was on and how I tracked it to the UK.

Hi
Thanks for that, I’ll take a look. Just hope these storms don’t cause any issues….

Hi Rad,

Just asked my dealer to see if he had an update on mine, and to confirm he has removed cermaic coating.

He confirmed that touch screen has been added back and the only deletion is wireless charging.

Still saying deliver end of March

[ref]Jam13f[/ref], curious to know why you’ve decided to remove ceramic coating? Makes mine so much easier to keep nice and clean and being done at dealership before pickup means protection from the start.

Good that some of the features are reappearing

Due to the Frozen paint, I am having the front and side skirts wrapped in PPF, then ceramic coating applied. Stone chips etc are not ideal on Matt paints and I want to keep it in mint condition if I am going to keep it past the 4 years or for re-sale/residual value. I also read that specialist companies do a much better job than BMW with the ceramic coating. So I am going to take delivery and then it will be gone for 3 days :x

Andy, most cars arriving at a dealers require paint correction even though they are brand new. Porsche quoted me, unasked, a good few hundred more than the detailer I used, and this was ceramic coating only, no paint correction.

I would never let a dealer ceramic coated my car, chances are it is not a professional detailer doing the work.

Mine was done via the dealership but by an external detailer. They don’t offer it in-house ceramic coating, it was Supagaurd or something like that they offered. When I asked about it they contacted the company they use for detailing and they came back with a price which I accepted. Was all on the BMW paperwork. Definitely wasn’t dearer than external companies as I’d checked a few in Glasgow and Edinburgh, including the company used before test drive visit. They’d quoted me £250 more direct quote over the phone than they quoted via BMW.

Car was dropped off and collected at the detailers by the salesman, added 3 days onto delivery date right enough

Jamie, didn’t realise that yours was frozen paint

Looked at this option myself but decided it was too expensive for additional paint costs then PPF’ing when the plan is only keeping it for 2 years. Might be an option on the next one depending on what colours the lci throws up

Yep...it took me a while to decide but went for it in the end.

Hi Everyone.
After waiting 252 days I’ll finally be collecting my Z4 tomorrow. I still have a feeling of ‘is it really happening’ The original expected delivery was the end of October.
Still it’s a 22 (although it will have a cherished plate) and the warmer weather is ahead.
It’s been a year since we sold our M240i so really looking forward to enjoying open top drives again.
Thanks for all the interesting comments over the last few months, I will continue to follow posts on the forum in the months ahead.
