Z4 G29 Delivery Delays

Im so done with BMW. Never again.

Phone call from dealer this morning to sort out messages from yesterday - is it stuck at the port, is it not? Why has it suddenly had a month added to the delivery time?

So yeah, the car has been built.

Wrong colour. (I didn't order frozen paint - car that's been built hasn't got frozen paint either... so don't know where that came from) Wrong colour seats.

Dealer confirmed paperwork - mess up at the factory, not the dealer end.

If I want what I actually ordered, I'm looking at December/January (of course, no guarantees on that either). No fast track, no nothing, just back to the back of the queue as a new order.

Livid.

Russ, if it wasn’t for bad luck, you’d have no luck :tumbleweed:

The practical side makes me ask is the “wrong” colour/seat combo in any way acceptable to you? Is the spec of the car correct otherwise.

If yes to the above, and due to THEIR continual f**k ups, I honestly don’t feel a £10k discount is anywhere out of a reasonable request at this point.

Have you spoken to anyone at BMW HQ as well as the dealer?

Are they offering any incentive for you to take the car that is built? Could you live with the colour and interior?

You are now in a different scenario to where a delay was due to circumstances outside of BMW's control, someone has fecked up your order and this is THEIR fault and as such they should be bending over backwards to compensate you in a way you are happy with. Time for a formal complaint, escalated to head office. I would be asking for a face to face meeting with the dealer principle and laying on the line they cannot wriggle out of this as BMW have made glaring errors with your order.

I'd be asking for my order to be expedited and for compensation, probably in the form of free servicing etc.

Only spoken to dealer at the moment. They are in a win/win situation with the car from a financial point of view. I'm sure if they put it in the showroom, or make a few calls, it will be sold the same day.

Its SFR/White seats. I think thats the same combo as you scubaregs. However my lifestyle may be different - I live in the car and it will be my daily... and as somebody that lives in jeans and having had light coloured (cream) leather before, the car will look pants in a month. I haven't got the time to keep on top with the detailing aspect of the interior.

Dealer paperwork is apparently correct - certainly my paperwork states white with magma interior. So it would point that there's a problem at the factory - but I don't know the systems well enough to say whether that would be the case or not. I would have thought with the level automation in modern factories, it wouldn't be really possible... but I don't know so can't really comment for sure.

In terms of rushing a build through the system - apparently thats not possible. (Although I swear certain youtubers don't have the waits that us mere mortals do). Who really knows eh? As I say, the new build they are saying would be Dec/Jan.... About the time the Porsche would have landed if in hindsight, I'd ordered the Cayman or Boxster.

I've got to phone back at some point after I've mulled it over.

Yes, I'm SFR red with Ivory interior, car is a DD, done 13,000 miles since I got it, I live in jeans, leather looks like the day I got it, unblemished.

Again their error, up to them to compensate you for it.

Anything is possible.

They simply cannot expect you to accept this situation with no compensation, the fault is entirely theirs and I would be pointing this out in the strongest possible terms.

So what would be fair compensation? (A Cayman? :P)

What would you be happy with? Money off the car, 5 free services, some BMW goodies? Really it is up to you to decide what you feel is justifiable. Yes, initial delays were outside BMW's control, however building your car to the wrong spec is not and they need to recognise that fact and compensate accordingly. At the same time you have to give them an idea of your expectations to resolve this.

Personally I'd be like a dog with a bone on this one, they have royally fecked up and at the moment don't seem to care.

[ref]Russ Z4[/ref], Your chosen dealer seems incompetent, I seem to recall that you ordered your car in July? and now it's not the correct order :headbang: I'd be tempted to cancel but you're in a lose lose situation, you'll have to wait for any new car as not just if you reorder to the correct specification, nightmare. If you settle for the SFR/white it will never be the car that you ordered, yes you may love it, but....

I'd be tempted to screw them as much as a possible in compensation, then see if you can sell it back to another dealer for a profit, then if you actually like it then keep it.

[ref]Russ Z4[/ref], if I remember correctly, you ordered the car with Sytner in Conventry, didn't you? Personally, I haven't had any good experience (for the past 5 BMWs including the Z4) with Sytner's sales team regardless of which branch of Sytner I was dealing with. As Scubaregs said, raise formal complaint to both dealer's director level as well as BMW UK. If possible (I mean not too much cost involved), find a lawyer to draft the complaint using lawyer's formal language and address to the dealer and BMW UK. They will pay more attention if a lawyer is talking to them compared to individual customer.

About the order error, I personally doubt that it's the factory messed up the spec. Everything is computerised nowadays and the only point of error can be made is when people enter the spec into the computer, which is the dealer. It is extremely likely that they sold your car to someone else who pay the full price and now they have another car that no one want it yet so they don't mind sell it to you at the price they promised you a year ago.

Alternatively, another thing I may offer to help is that I can give my salesman a call to see what's the best he can do to match your existing offer and how long it may take for the car to arrive. But this may turn out to be useless though.

[ref]Russ Z4[/ref], Some pics and a video of my Ivory interior. Just under 21,000 miles, 14,000 in my ownership. Cleaned and treated last summer with Autoglym leather clean and protect kit, wasn't needed just had the kit and wanted to try it. :D
So in these pics today, the interior has not been touched in 9 months, hood down where possible and jeans worn all the time.

As a starting point, I've asked to see how far up the pecking order I can get with a build slot - lets see if we can get a build landing sooner rather than later. Then we'll move onto stage 2.

I think I could never feel right about the car which is built - after all, it wasn't what I ordered. And lots not forget this isn't insignificant amounts of money when it comes to making compromises.

If anybody is looking for a no wait Z4... I know of one which is going to become available... and bizarrely enough, BMW Genius are telling me it's going to land at the dealers week commencing 25th July.... so it's already now moved forward a month from what I was told yesterday.

Currently looking at a rather nice prebuilt, ready to go Alpine A110...

Sytner, but not Coventry. My experience with Sytner has always been nothing but terrible... they acknowledged that this was their opportunity for them to make good of my past experiences. If this is good, I hate to think what being bent over feels like.

I checked with Genius about the car - and the car that has been built against my name/slot/order number etc... is SFR. So the dealer hasn't done the dirty in terms of selling on the car. Dealership stating they have a case open with BMW to understand where where the **** up happened.

Thanks for posting that. Does look good - although, I still cant get past my past experience with cream.

I'm mighty impressed with the camera work - of course, getting a clean shot of the fastest of all colours is not something to be sniffed at! :P

I bought used, I wanted SFR but would have preferred black leather, just couldn’t find a car in that combo with the spec I wanted. I've actually got disposable seat covers in the car, bought just in case, but so far never needed them.

How does it cope with dive gear in the back? Or is not used for such activities?

I only dive on holiday Russ, Scottish summers, such as they are, are for the bike. So saying I could easily fit all my gear in the boot.

Currently with BMW UK regional manager. Dealer said they’d see what the position is in 2 weeks. Got a new build slot. So yay.

nice. fingers crossed, you've had bad bad luck
Well, that depends. That build slot is at the back of the queue. I'll find out in 2 weeks if it has been moved to a more favourable position in the queue. In the hands of BMW UK at the mo.

The yay was a bit sarcastic I guess!
