Well, as it happens the car was ready yesterday and I dutifully went to collect it. I love it love it love it.
Only 900 more miles until I finish running it in!
On a serious note, dealer told me that they had a memo go round today that more spec is missing on every bmw until further notice.
Touchscreen we know is out, but not there is even more limited Bluetooth which means all BMW csrs won’t have android auto or apple CarPlay. He said this is mega and a real problem for him as he will need to call every customer and advise them.

For goodness sake won’t be any tech left on them at this rate!! This will cause mayhem for dealers as CarPlay is a big deal I think.

Appreciate you may not know the answer to this Ori but I’m speculating whether the removal of Apple CarPlay relates to touchscreen removal and do the software updates implement better iDrive controller and voice support for CarPlay?

From a technical perspective, my though on touchscreen, CarPlay, or apple digital key being missing at the moment is that they all require more chips which are obviously hard to get hold of. Therefore, I doubt BMW can do anything on software to overcome the missing chips to achieve the same functionality. However, what BMW might be able to do about the Apple CarPlay is to support it via wired connection other than wireless connection. Wired connection CarPlay can rely on the mfi certified chip in the cable other than a special apple certification chip built into the head unit when it's manufacturered.

Had an update today, I'm still at capacity checked... so Ive got a fair way to go yet as its not started building yet. It was stated that its likely to now be mid April but could could come forward. I reckon mid April at the earliest then...
