*** WHO'S GOING LIST UPDATED 26/04/201 ***

OK, there’s been a good bit of discussion about a z4-forum return trip to Skye. Last year’s z4-forum trip seemed to go down well (reports here) so we’re starting the planning for this years NOW! I’ve learned a few things from the last trip – things like booking the ferry is a good idea :oops:, and an earlier start to allow more time to explore Skye – so this should be better than ever! Route will be similar to last year's: if it ain't broke, why fix it. There’s also a z4-forum weekender to Islay being planned for September 2011 – see this thread for discussion and details.

ALL Z4-FORUMERS WELCOME!

Details:
* Sat 14th & Sun 15th May 2011
* meeting 8.00/8.15am for an 8.30am departure (prompt)
* return Sunday late afternoon
* Start at Stirling Services (FK7 8ET)
* Finish at Airth Services (FK2 8PJ)

Format:
* approx 9hrs / 390miles driving spread over 2 days (figures according to Googlemaps)
* destination Skye
* outbound route via Fort William, arriving on Skye via the Mallaig-Armadale ferry
* return route via Skye Bridge
* overnight stay in Sligachan (camping or hotel)
* Saturday evening BBQ/beers and/or pub grub
* several photo/chat/pee stops along the way
* opportunity to explore Skye for a few hours on Saturday and maybe on Sunday too (depending on exact plan, but we can discuss when we're there)
* almost all A/B/unclassified(!) road, not much dual-carriageway/motorway
* exact route will be PM'd/emailed to all going

Accommodation:
* Option 1: Sligachan Hotel
- approx £64 per person per night bed and breakfast
- booking essential! Details HERE
OR
* Option 2: Sligachan Campsite (located 2mins walk from hotel)
- approx £5 per person per night
- no need to book
- toilets/showers, etc and probably somwhere to plug your hair straighteners into... :poke:

Ferry:
* this trip involves a ferry crossing on the outbound (Saturday) leg: Mallaig to Armadale (Skye)
* ferry can be booked via http://www.calmac.co.uk
* we are going for the 1.45pm Mallaig-Armadale ferry on Saturday 14th May 2011 (1.15pm latest check-in)
* booking is ESSENTIAL (don't ask how I know this :oops:) - it's up to YOU to book your own ferry
* once we're in the ferry queue we can grab something for lunch from Mallaig

Notes:
* super unleaded is available at a garage on Skye (please start from Stirling with a brimmed tank though)
* Mallaig-Armadale ferry is £29.30 for car + 2 passengers and takes 35mins (Bridge is free but the road from Fort William to Mallaig - aka Road To The Isles - is a beauty and worth driving for the scenery too)
* midge nets – as oh-so-stylishly modelled here - are a good idea!
* Mallaig is 3hrs 15min of driving excluding stops; we've got 4hrs 15min (Googlemaps) for this part of the journey but that has to include stops
* we should arrive on Skye ~2.15pm, at the campsite/hotel ~3.15pm, leaving the rest of the day to explore Skye briefly before dinner

And if you're not sure about coming along, check out the scenery you'll miss out on...
* Skye holiday June 2007
* Skye/Applecross driving trip June 2010
* Z4-forum Skye trip 2010
* hopefully that's helped convince you, and I've not even mentioned the awesome roads...

Sounds like a load of crap, but I suppose I will tag along to give the car a run out. :P Do I get royalties for my midge net modelling :)

If I have nothing better to do then I suppose I might tag along.

The Midget has decided to go to the Rugby do in Hampshire the previous weekend and won't be attending due to work commitments :thumbsdown: , so I've got a mate to tag along as official photographer :D .

Now just to make sure I'm the UK :!:

Uhm, I'm not saying I'm going, but I'll keep this date in mind.....I gotta go vacation in March/April so most likely won't have the money to do this.

I wondered if you'd follow that link! :D

Just as well I've vowed not to use my mobile to access z4-forum like I did with Nosa/Mrs Nosa :evil:

Bookmark this thread and just see how things go - there's always the Islay trip in September to aim for if you can't make this one...

I'm in !

Well, not definate, but probable.
I'm already booked for the trip to Islay, but a trip to Skye could also be appealing ( forgive my english).

a11y - Should be able to make those dates , so put down as a definate (as definate as anyone can be this far in advance!) for me and the mrs.

Might need tips for hotels / pubs near the start point too, 200+ miles from Leeds (or longer if I divert via some A roads).

Still negotiating on the camping arrangements - I'm not keen on camping, but the mrs is.

p.s. Can someone order 2 extra midgenets - not a big requirement for local shops to stock these down here :lol:
p.p.s. Now to arrange a business meet at our Airdrie depot for the Friday before and following Monday....

Shooter, I've added you to the provisional list :thumbsup:

Guiseley, you're added! Midge nets are usually something you need to buy up there or on ebay in advance, can't recall seeing them in local shops around me...

Lee_Zee, added you to provisional list too :)

Hotels near the start:
All of these have decent/safe parking, fuel nearby and reasonable food onsite.
Premier Inn Stirling is around 60secs from Stirling Services
Falkirk (Larbert) Premier Inn (10mins away): PawnSacrifice, Siftah and ZermattV stayed there last year, great pub
Falkirk (Central) is 10/15min away, nice old building and close to town centre for better food options (I also stay around 10mins from here so easiest one for me to head along to on the Friday night for some chat, although all the others are close enough)
Falkirk (North) is again 10/15mins away
Airth Castle is the posh option :D

Mrs Nosa not a definate yet, but will be +1 if she does not attend. and will be camping :cry:

Bugr,i would go to this,tho wont be able to make it a11y,i am afraid :thumbsdown:

I am a likely to be busy that weekend/celebrating my 1st wedding aniversary :D

Argh, congrats - what better way to celebrate than a nice romantic* weekend away to Skye? :D. There's always the Islay trip.

*as romantic as a bunch of z4 fanatics on a campsite in Skye can be...

A pleasant surprise ! hadn't expected an Islay and Skye trip this year but yes add us in Ally - we'll probably even camp this year ! :thumbsup:

If I'm there I will be camping.

Craig, imagine your halfs face as she sees at first hand the beauty and romance of the Skye, then imagine your surprise and incredualtion at the shock that the place just happens to be overrun with Z4's that weekend :D

Ha, that would be even better: just don't tell her the z4-forum trip is on that weekend and innocently book a weekend away somewhere posh on Skye...

I'm massively disappointed that I didn't see this at the beginning of the week. :headbang:

I'm booked up for an over nighter in Skye on the 13th, I'm off to Thurso on the 14th then I'm heading back down to Perth on the Sunday via the Cairngorms.

I think I'll need to see about the trip later in the year with you guys. Here's hoping for some great weather that weekend! :thumbsup:

Yeah since I'm planning on going broke showing my girlfriend everything Louisiana (and some Texas oh and money depending a little of California)....I'm just going to wait for September. Unless of course I happen to win at the casino's/lottery while I'm on vacation ;)

A11y,

I'm a Z4-forum road trip virgin but planning on attending this one! Please put me down as a (probable) provisional and I'll be camping too.
Mrs CoupeChief busy at home with Wee CoupeChief but I'll probably easily convince my mate to come along. Can't wait! 
