Z4-forum weekender: Applecross/Scotland - 18-20th May 2012!

I may be up for this, just need to find a travelling buddy to help with petrol costs and share a room with in the B&B.

I'm afraid I have no desire to camp but will try and find the closest B&B or may consider one of those huts, even though the mattresses look less comfortable than the ones down the local nick...

Will keep looking in on the thread :)
The more the merrier :)

UPDATE:

I just called the campsite to book, but was told there's absolutely no need: I mentioned there'd be approx 6/7 tents and was told "no probs - just turn up". I've stayed before and it's fairly spacious, so we'll be OK (he says confidently). But, if you're wanting to book a wooden shack thing or B&B/hotel then best get it sorted soon.

On another note - food? I can highly recommend the Applecross Inn and wondered about a group meal there one of the nights? Perhaps the Friday given that it's a long drive and we might be more knackered? Plus if we decided to BBQ on the other night then there'll be ample opportunity to head out to Loch Carron (via the Belach Na Ba) for supplies. What do folk think?

Also got some good news yesterday, My audable passenger seat speed limiter will not be fitted for this run :)

No it's not good news Nosa, it won't be the same !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, my travelling buddy has said she's keen on this, will be speaking to the B&B near the campsite so that we can engage in any BBQ activities on the night and then walk back there afterwards :)

Sounds sensible Ally. Quick and easy meal on Friday, then BBQ Saturday. Saves loading the car with supplies before heading up, other than the £4 BBQs of course

Ali, that was just sorting out the route - all done now so won't happen again

I would love to go for this advanture, unfortunately, I booked a flight back to home on 19th May!!!!! Shame!

Put me down as a maybe just now, may hop over to Lewis before or after to see family. Will probably camp, a free space in a cabin could tempt me though!

Yep ! thats to keep the mrs happy

We got married there, just before it became the Hilton. Was a nice hotel and looks really impressive from the bottom of the hill.

Its got a good write up on trip advisor etc ,but still good to hear !
Think the mrs has already booked herself a massage to get over all them days stuck in the passenger seat :D

Woo hoo!!!

All booked up for me and a friend who will be coming with me, we're staying at Cul-an-dun which is the B&B next to the campsite so that we can still easily partake in the Saturday buffet :)

See you all in May :driving:

metal licker, Blue, great to have you folks along :)

And yeah, posh git: the Dunblane Hydro is a cracking place to stay! Sure beats the Premier Inn in Falkirk that folk have used in the past (although to be fair there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not the Hilton...).

Update 2/04/2012: I'll leave it a couple of weeks to firm up numbers, then if it's OK with everyone I'll book us tables at the Applecross Inn for the Friday evening - it's not a massive place and booking is advisable for a group of our size (but if folk are happy to do their own thing that's fine). And I'm still keeping an eye on the road closure: there's a couple of groups doing driving trips in the area later in April so they're testing the water (or the tracks, to be more precise...). When the road's open they're doing convoys along it at the following times only:

EDIT: just updated the list in the first post - let's get those "provisionals" into "definites" :poke:
