Z4-forum weekender: Applecross/Scotland - 18-20th May 2012!

After today's meet and the good banter that went with it, change me to a definite. I'll book the time off work on Monday.

Kirsty will come along if she's available, but she won't know until nearer the time. She's coming round to the camping idea

If she can't make it, I ain't missing this one. So I'm still in. I'll need to buy a tent now

Glad to hear it mate - will be good to have you (both) along!

The only bit of advice I'll give is don't skimp on camping gear. First time round we bought one of the all-in-one kits from Tiso which was awful - tent too small and horrific sleeping bags. Spend a little time researching the forum and the internet in general and you'll get a reasonably priced shopping list.

Wise words
Wisdom comes with age and experience, and if you'd seen the look on Kirsty's that first morning in Skye.

Another bit of advice: don't try to keep up with the Joneses when it comes to tents. Some folk even had a CARPET in their tent at previous meets :P

Exactly. And remember - laminate flooring is not acceptable and WILL NOT fit in the zed.

A carpet? lol. That's a brilliant. I'm off outside with stanley knife and an old off-cut that's in the loft...

So who had the carpet? Who's owning up to that one?

great idea, its a fantastic drive. Went with my previous Z4. Might try to come but would need to drive up on the saturday and prob stay at a B&B, Wife would never agree to camp!

Won't mention any names but here's a few clues,

He works abroad alot.
He was gutted yesterday when England got their tatties at Twickers.
And he is a big lad.

You and me both. After 2 miserable previous camping trips to Scotland I'm officially retired! Perhaps I should have taken some carpet...

Ohi!!!!! you lot leave it out, jealously is such a horrible thing :poke:
I don't recall many complaints when you were all sheltering from the somewhat inclement weather at one point.
Just because you are camping doesn't mean you have to slum it.

Afterall how else would you be in a position to capture priceless moments like this.

Sorry Jamie.

Anyway it was the only way I could convince my good lady wife to try camping, there was no way she was going to scamble in and out of a compact tent on her hands and knees.

So here it is in all it's glory on a practice errection in the back garden.

Seriously for those put off camping or reluctant to try it, don't scrimp, buy good gear and a large tent it really does transform the experience, so much so that my good lady wife is actually prepared to go camping more often.

Applecross, 2mins in - that's where we're going! I love the fact that they needed to add subtitles for some of the northerners

Just found time to watch that, good link ally  Makes me even more eager to drive up the Bealach na Bà!

Only 8 weeks or so to go, so a friendly BUMP up :)

I'll PM those confirmed soon re accommodation and route info - I didn't want to detract from the Moffat meet, plus there's still uncertainty about a section of my first-choice route being open...

I'm considering it Ally. But not up for the camping, i'm not a lover of the great ourdoors, no where for the wife to plug her straighteners in either. Ha! (the wife not me, honest! ;)

May make a wee weekend of it, once the route is done, fire it over and i'll figure out where i can meet you's enroute. What day you's going to be doing the Applecross? Friday?

Quite fancy staying in Skibo - been saying to her that we'd go at some point!
