Z4 for hire. €‎500/wk

My Surinaamse (Surinamese?) neighbours are in town for 3 months.
They own the house next door to me here in sunny Vleuten. It's been vacant for about a year since their kids, 'the little darlings' as I referred to them fkd off back to Surinam after a few years studying here then loafing about for a year. They were pleasant enough but they were obviously spoiled rotten by their parents as they had the house, a car each; a BMW 3 series and a Polo and daily food deliveries.
The BMW was sold before they went back, leaving the Polo standing outside under a sh!tty Lidl tarp. The Polo is fkd basically. They obvs never looked after it and didn't service it properly. :headbang:

In any case I hepled the owners get it running so they could take it to a garage. They saw me under the bonnet of the Zed at the weekend and presumed I might be able to work a miracle for them by looking at it and fixing it. 'We'll pay you more than garage if it works!' he said. Yeah right, I thought.
Well, it only needed a jump start and a few cranks but the engine knocks like a b@stard and it was smoking.

My zed sits under a Stormforce cover most of the time while I have an unlimited-use Tesla Model 3 LR on loan from a client in Hamburg. I'm there 3 weeks and back here for 2 weeks at a time.
The Tesla is fkg horrid. It's like sitting in sh!ttest driving video game and I still haven't figured out all the gadgets and gizmos. I also don't find it particularly comfortable and the build quality is laughable with loose bits of plastic and creaking panels that you can't do a thing with.
When I go up to or come back from Hamburg I invariably have to go through the rigmarole of finding a supercharger for a top up as even though it should have enough range for the trip, it doesn't! What a scam!

So anyway. He gets back from the garage in an Uber. Lol. They come and thank me for my help and then proceed to make me an offer I totally wasn't expecting. 'Can we rent your car?' I assumed they meant the Tesla as it hardly moves when I'm here. I explained it wasn't mine to loan out before he goes 'no, we mean the sportauto, that one. We like that one. But does the airco work too? that's important for us.' pointing to the zed. Lol

I was caught a bit off guard and didn't know how to respond but admittedly spotted a potential enterprise situation.
They must have been looking at things to hire as they already came armed with an offer; €‎500/wk for the next 3 months while they're here. They'd been looking at a G29 for hire at €‎800/wk and must have put 2 and 2 together with the idea that 'well he doesnt use his car much, maybe he'll rent it to us, as well as maybe thinking 'yeah that E85 is a way better car than the G29. loool :fuelfire:
I made that last bit up, can you tell?
In any case, at €‎500/wk for 3 months that would be more than the car's probably worth! In fact, it's definitely more than it's worth!

I told them to go and see if they could get insurance first as it's still registered to my UK address. I should really get around to importing it but the idea was to get it back over to Blighty at some point and store it or flog it.
I think I'm probably going to say no anyway as when the Model3 goes back I'd have to use the zed for any long trips etc. I do use it occasionally but driving around for pleasure is something I don't do. If they stuff it into a dyke then I'd have the task of finding something else. It's not like I need the money right now although as a 'serial entrpreneur' I should be taking advantage immediately.
So I'm probably going to neg it.

What would you do?

The oil spots on the floor in that space are from the Polo. It was handy while it was standing there as it meant no w@nker was parking next to the zed all the time and dinging the door.
And yes, it's already been pointed out to me several times that I'm driving around in the only pink Tesla in NL. I didn't have any choice in the matter.
:x

Great story  Model, value, how smitten are you with this particular car?

I love my car but at that money, hell yeah! What’s the worse that could really happen if the insurance is all straight.

If it was me try and shake hands on £600 :D Play on the heart strings saying “you must know I love this car, you always see me tinkering, I always keep it clean, inside & out etc!

Plus you get to keep an eye on it 8)

Don't do it Chris_D, no one drives my E85 except me and I'm not keen when it goes in for it's MOT. The thought of someone else revving the guts out it makes me shudder. :headbang:

Nip back to the UK, pick up another one cheap and rent them that. By the time they’re done it’ll be a free car. Bring it back to the proper rhd land and sell it for pure profit

It's not gonna happen. I was a bit cold on the idea anyway and besides, I wouldn't know how to invoice it with tax/insurance implications for me.

It took me hours of fixing up when I first got it - throttlebody, ICV, new CCV system, waterpump, stat, belts, front springs, valve cover gasket, all the renovated bits like headlights and paint and weeks hanging around for various parts. So it feels more like an investment of time that I have in it rather than anything financial. So if they did stuff it into something, then all that time and hard work would be for nothing and also caused by someone elses actions. That would def be a bitter pill.

That's actually not a bad idea. What's an even better idea would be to find one here in NL, buy it, rent it out as you suggest and make a profit on it. But they'd bust me easily seeing as they're only next door and would probably get wise to the little scheme. Plus I'm back off up to Hamburg at the weekend so I don't really have time.

I pointed them in the direction of some car-sharing sites. They seem quite popular over here and many are hiring out their cars to tourists etc. Pretty clever and it's something I should look into more perhaps as I live close to Haarzuilens Castle which is a ridiculously popular tourist hotspot in summer!

Maybe my neighbours can rent Marlies's E89:

Doesn't Marlies bear an UNCANNY resemblance to Eddie Izzard?

It would have been a can of worms for you as the car is "illegal" in NL.

So ... a UK plated car with Suriname drivers = guaranteed stop, check on insurance et voila - fine for overstaying with the car. Deportation for you next ...

Nah. I have a 10yr residency permit there’s a little-known loophole which I exploit in order to stay on the right side of ‘legal’.
I’ve been stopped by the Douane on quite a few occasions and cited it, then let go without any issues or consequences.
Many here with foreign cars use it. It’s a bit naughty/exploitative but I’m not sharing it here.
Come on, this country RUNS on loopholes of one form or another!
