Z4 firm ride

I find the ride of my 2004 Z4 3.0L SE with m-tech suspension and bridgestone run-flat tyre too hard. Does anyone agree with me and if so have you found a solution to this problem. :(
On B roads the car is thrown of-line to such a degree, unless I drive slowly, that I am scared that I will thrown onto the curb or into an oncoming car.

I read an an artical from evo mag. on the internet conserning an identical car/wheels/tyres (2003) to mine, where they complained about the hard ride and changed the bridgestone runflats to non-runflat and found that is did not make any real difference!

Thanks to all who have replied below, but I need to know if anyone with an 3.0L Z4 18-inch wheels, m-tech suspension, year 2004 or same model, has actually changed to non-run flats and found an improvement. Hense by concern before parting with the cash.

rocketron, welcome to the forum...
Changing out the RF tires to regular tires would be the first step... :driving:

The whole idea of the ///M sport suspension is to increase the performance of the suspension, give a more 'sporty' feel and as a consuequence the ride is harder.

Run flat tyres don't help and many have binned them

ive got a rover 75 for sale ,if you want something comfy!!! :fuelfire: by the way its bright yellow 8)

PMSL

Personally do not find it that bad more bouncy than hard ride and do not get that awlful crash through the steering wheel when i go over a pot hole or man hole cover as i did with my last car.

As above ditch the runflats to start with the next option after that i suppose is to go back to standard suspension.

Do you mean 'tramlining'? where the wheels try to follow the contour of the road? If so i think all Z4s do it to some extent.

Just a question. Did you test drive the car before you bought it? Seems a bit late to find the suspension is too hard?

I've just switched to Falken FK 452's on the back and as yet haven't noticed any difference.....Then again I never thought the ride was too hard in the first place.

if you have only recently bought the car then you may want to try to get used to ut- i found the same thing at first but your confidence levels wll soon increase and the rde wont be an issue!

Easy fix. Get regular tires to replace your RFT's, and get Koni struts/shocks to replace your OEM ones. Keep your stock springs and replace the rear-shock-mounts with Rogue Engineering ones while you're at it.

 Its a sports car :driving:

Rocktron i have the same car as you 2004 3.0 se on 18s on Bridgestone Potenza and M.Sport suspension and i know what you mean about getting the odd scare on some roads but i did have the same on my last car on lowered suspension and low profile tyres which were normal tyres have been told that you get the tramlining with most cars on wide low profile tyres friend at work drove a new Porsche and hated it so the non run flats may only help smooth out the ride a little but not stop the odd scare. My last car could be scary under heavy braking on a bad road but the Z is fine.

Side wall compliance of low profile tires is the problem. Low profile tires are designed to flex very little is response to vertical and twisting forces. Upside? Great turn in, better stability when subjected to high lateral forces. Down side? A rougher ride and greater tendency to "follow the road". There is no perfect solution. You voted for the handling performance when you bought the package, but by changing to tires that weren't invented by Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble you can improve things considerably. I won't recommend a particular non- runflat (although I do have a favorite), but any major brand non-runflat performance tire will help. But, any tire fitted to a 18" wheel can't give you too smooth of a ride. If they did, you would have square wheels in short order. Good luck.
