I can’t remember if I saw this linked here one time a while back or not but here it is https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6RC9TdVgNeM

Try this one right on the National Geographic site rather than YouTube

This is a great video - I have watched this several times previously. A great insight into the build quality of the engines and the lengths BMW go to in the paint shop and protecting the steel

Just sat and watched it :)

Did they start painting the underside of the bonnets on FL cars?

Hi, I think my facelift silver grey zed had a black underside to the bonnet the same as the engine bay :?

It brings such an appreciation for our cars for sure. I actually grew up not even an hour and a half away from the plant and everyone in my German class was wanting to try for a job there with it only being a few years into opening when I graduated. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t want to go into a factory job and I got into reforestation right out of school and due to job cuts didn’t last long there. Now I’m machining for Ford  go figure

Don't know if I agree with the news that humans not robots weld the roll over hoops - "I think about peoples lives" says the man fine but the robots not thinking about 'this is the last car before weekend' or welding with a hangover on Monday morning! and yes I know it will be a 24/7 operation but you know what I mean

Brilliant video. But I didnt see any underseal or anything going on underneath the car. Do they rely solely on that dip process shown earlier in the video?

There is definitely an underbody sealer applied. Probably at the same time as the seam sealing is done, but didn't get shown..

Mike

Thanks Mike. Started me thinking that they might be like those Japanese MX5 imports where you need to get additional underbody sealer.

Thank you for that, not seen it before
IMHO I think the E85 has aged really well still looks great and will be a future classic.

( well if an Austin Allegro is a classic I'm dam sure my Z4 will become one  )

Just watched it for the first time  . Great stuff, really interesting. Did anyone else say 'wow' when that montego blue one emerged after having the clear coat applied?

Brilliant and a big thanks for posting up. Missus was watching Death in paradise :headbang: but soon stopped when she saw what I was watching. :driving:

Well that dip process is why the Z4 still looks good today, which proves it can be done, its just other car manufactures only want it to last 10 years before escapade to the breakers yard. :worthless:
