z4 engine stalled in a ford (water)-- next steps

Guys got a call back from the dealer .. They are saying they had a look it had a lot of water but doesnt look like there is damage to the engine .. But air filter got soaked and there was water in oil .. So they will replace it .. Do extensive road test and engine balancing test and hopefully it will be fine.

So fingers crossed!!

And i was booked in for a service on Wednesday and he asked me if they should go ahead with servicing if everything is fine.. I might be reading between the lines but that made me happy as it sound like they are expecting things to be fine.

What do you guys think based on the new info?

Bet you'll be looking at alternative routes in future.

I decided to take a few different routes after the last 3 months of rain, glad I did after reading this

So many people do this. There have been sooo many cars going through the auctions recently with knackered engines due to people driving through flooded roads.
People need to be educated on the matter imo. I don't think people realise what happens to the engine when water gets sucked in. Pistons moving at high speed and water enters and can't be compressed=catastrophic engine damage!

Look elsewhere on this site, i drove through what i thought was a shallow flood. Anyway what happened the filter got soaked with water. First open up the air filter box and see if the filters wet, either dry out or buy another. It seemed to stop the water getting any further into engine and stop a hydraulic lock.

Didn't read what you have already done..doh!

Part problem is the intake is above the radiator so any splashing at the front goes straight up into air intake.
Like me accept the fact it aint a submarine!

I totally agree ... I might be a total rookie but I only learned about it today after extensively searching the internet

Guys!! Great news!

They did all the tests - there doesn't seem to be any engine problem. The engine is running fine ... the balancing test was ok and they had a ride and it seems to be performing ok.

Needed new air filters, spark plug, etc etc.

Very happy now!!!!

No more going through ford with this baby! its delicate :)

Glad its ok..

Where is this ford in Shirley ?

There is a deep one that comes in Hall green near Sarehole road, and another in the Wythall area....Near the Alcester road..
