Z4 e85 roof

Hi all I would like to let you know the problems and the steps I took to rectify my problem.
The roof on my 2003 e85 z4 failed, it began when i tried to open my roof i depressed the down button in the cab but all i got was an orange light but no noise from the motor and the windows didn't drop,I then checked at the motor which I have relocated to the boot and found that I did not have an electrical supply at the motor, I checked the fuses and relays and found they were fine, I traced it back to the micro switch which is in the boot on the carpet section that is at the back of the seat wall 2 thirds of the way up it had a piece of grit lodged in it that stopped the switch completing the circuit having removed that the roof worked fine I hope this helps.

Seems to be the first place to check if you get a roof problem, quite a few cases of the shelf raising and lowering turn levers having been knocked out of position which affects that switch and stops the roof moving. Always check the shelf is in the lowered position to provide room for the folded hood, when its fully down that switch is activated by the peg on the shelf. Also not unknown for the switch itself to fall apart so the roof fails. Very unusual for a bit of grit getting in yours and stopping the swich operating but a cheap and quick fix once you found it.
