Z4 E85 Roof Motor Relocation

Morning All,
New Member here, I've managed to get my Roof Motor out of it's cesspit, it's just the last lower cable-tie that's stopping me getting the bottom of the casing and cables out, just can't get to it and can't summon the courage to tear it out. Does anyone have any advice before I pay someone to do it, also is there anyone closer to Norfolk that could do it...?

Hey Daniel that's the exact same spot I got stuck on my DIY.

There really is no other way (that I could figure out) but absolutely ripping at it. I let go of all mechanical sympathy and eventually snapped the tie.

I found it was easier to get leverage from the inside (stick your arm down from the interior.

I did mine when I got the car. Got the bugger out and got all the cables free, moved to the boot with out disconnecting anything and only trimming back a touch of plastic. Took about 50min to do. Simple
 
Thanks for that advice, I've been messing around with this since a year ago, gave up during the Summer and used the roof manually. I was wondering whether it would be easier from behind the seat. The fins seem to brake in the same place from photos I've seen...?
 
Yeh definitely was easier for me from the inside. From the boot my arm was so oddly contorted I couldn't get any force.

From thr inside though you can pull it upwards.

The fin should break where the tie is - the tie I assume is stronger.
 
Just so I get this right...the motor casing isn't attached to anything, so it should only be the cable tie that's holding it in place. Appreciate the help.

Yep if you've got the bottom of the casing exposed (top cap off, motor out), there should only be the ties.

I think there are some guide slots on the bottom casing though where the lines clip in - check that the lines are free before yanking.
 
Decided to get the roof relocated ( Z4 E85) by someone who knows what they're doing, Mike at the Zed Shed in Earlestown repaired and relocated my motor while I waited, great service and a working roof...
He did look under the bonnet for me and said I needed the Vacuum Pump Gasket replacing, but it seems you have to buy the whole unit, does anyone know which I should buy...?
