Hi all,
Recently purchased a Z4 e85 3.0i SMG. And what a lovely car! Getting on for well over a decade and still looks the biz! Anyway I digress. The issue is I do a lot of miles. Not sure exactly but let's say 20-25k as an approximate per annum. I used to have a 320Ci and had 16" on these. I used to go through a full set of tyres pretty much every year. These were Michelin 205/55/R16 PS3's (Pilot Sport 3) and served me well, never felt like I was slipping or loosing grip. For a full set including fitting you're looking at approx. £300.
For a full set on the Zed with 18" staggered fitment is... Well much more! Hence the change to Z4 16" (don't worry I'm still keeping the 18").
My questions (but they go hand in hand):
Should I stick with runflats? I know the ride will be harsher and the tyres themselves a little more expensive but not enough to break the bank. I'm a little concerned if I move away from the RFT and then having a blow out (God forbid). With the ride being so low as it is, slightly scared I might not have enough clearance and end up doing serious damage? I don't want to ground my car!
This thread was useful in regards to clearance, as I'm running the 18" at present. However with the 16's on it'll be a slightly different ball game.

Any insight/info would be much appreciated.
Secondly tyre recommendations, as mentioned before I used to have 205/55/R16 on the 3 Series. I've seen some posts on the different sizes and I think I'm right in saying 225/50/R16 is the standard for the Zed? Any particular tyres that anyone recommends? I'm after good grip vs. affordability. Not overly worried about wear. I've got some old Bridgestone Potenza's on the set I've got at the moment.
Finally, but more of a note I've trial fitted the wheels (to the front) and there's about 5mm clearance from the inside of the alloy wheel to the calliper. I know the 3.0si or if you've upgraded your brakes clearance might be an issue but think I've managed to get away with it. Thread below was very helpful:
