Z4 E85 Crankshaft Oil Seal Replacement

I am getting oil stains around the lower front of the engine (M54 2.5) which appears to be an oil leak from a worn crankshaft seal. The leak is slight but continuous and is not severe enough to cause dripping oil patches on the top of the sump guard tray, is it worth the effort to replace the seal and with engine in situ and is it a very complicated job ?? Assume radiators will have to come out, advice would be appreciated from anyone who has tackled this job.

Which engine ? :?

If you have the n52 engine it may be a leak that is coming from higher up. The oil filter housing is a common leak point and it’s hard to see because of how it’s situated.

Sorry, key piece of info missing. Its the M54 2.5 engine, oil stains definitely centered around and behind the main pulley.
Same engine as mine and I had the same issue a few years back. Get a torch and have a good look around/behind the oil filter housing. The gasket on the housing fails with age and oil runs down the block and looks like it's leaking from elsewhere. Have you removed the undertray and had a good look from below ? If it doesn't look like it's oil running down from the OFH gasket then I'd have a good clean up everywhere, run it a while and then have another inspection to try and establish the source

Many thanks for the suggestion. I have heard about the oil filter gasket but have not looked in any detail in this area, will do this today. There is no oil as such on the undertray so have not thought about it too much at this time, however I know that when minor leaks start they soon build up so if it is the crankshaft seal is it worth tackling now
