Z4 E85 BMW Z4 3.0i SMG Clutch Actuator Rebuild

Hello all...

I'm a Newbie to this forum!

I have been reading lots of posts on this forum and have found the information invaluable regarding my Z4...

Perhaps someone can provide me with some guidance regarding an issue I'm having with my Z4?

Recently, my Z4 SMG started leaking hydraulic fluid from the clutch actuator (won't shift into gears anymore!)

I have pulled the clutch actuator and confirmed that it is leaking fluid and needs to be rebuilt (I'd prefer to have it rebuilt and avoid the +$1000 for a new clutch actuator).

I live in the US (Minnesota) and I was wondering if there is anyone rebuilding these clutch actuators domestically?

I understand that a rebuild service is available through SMG Society based out of Berlin, Germany if there is nothing available domestically.

I have read a number of posts/threads on this forum that recommend SMG Society!!!

Also, I understand that there is software available and connection adapters (IPNA \ ODB2), via eBay, that I can load on my laptop and do the reset myself, since the steps seem fairly easy and straight forward...

Is there anyone that has performed this operation on their SMG clutch actuator?

Thank you, in advance, for any helpful guidance you can provide.

Kind regards,

David

€150 for a rebuilt Clutch Actuator from SMG Society, plus shipping. One day turn-around. No brainer imho

And you think a new clutch actuator is $1000,--......

I know, it's insane but model specific bmw parts from cars that are not made anymore are going through the roof....

Got my clutch actuator shipped and it should be arriving at SMG Society in ~ 4 days... Hopefully they can turn it around fairly quickly and get it shipped backed to me sometime next week!!

I talked to the service director at my local BMW dealership/shop (Motorwerks BMW) and he is quite familiar with the 'SMG Adaptation for Sequential M-Gearbox' procedure and advised me that he could do the install of the clutch actuator and the complete adaptation in ~2 hours... So, I'm opting for my local BMW dealership/shop to get her up and running again.

Fingers crossed!!! :-)

WTF!!! That's a crazy price! It weighs ~ 12 oz and there's not much to it!
I've seen parts that have increased about eightfold(!!) in price in the last ~10 years.
For a cheap part that's not that bad (an increase from $10 to $80 is still bad, but $80 is still something you can afford), but indeed over $3k for a small part....
In europe its 'only' € 2.160,-- (incl VAT). (still utterly silly.....)

If you have an E89, the hydraulic pump is also such a nice item:

over $4k!!!!
In europe slightly cheaper: 'only' € 2.895,-- (incl. VAT)
