A belated welcome. I have owned a Z4 alpina 6 months and it's pretty much OEM spec, good condition. I removed the steering assembly and replaced it and i fitted the famous grease nipple as the steering was nasty. Happy to support someone who may need help on this. I live in Somerset.

What help I need:
I'm a bit confused with my stereo system. I have two navigation slots for cds. I found one nav CD from the last owner in the front head unit and one nav cd in the rear between the seats. I have paired my phone with bluetooth but the system is a bit fiddly. Not convinced 2 nav cds are needed.

So I'm trying to achieve a usb port, and maybe a new head unit upgrade for better control for phone use etc. I have some ideas but one of your fellas will have sorted this. I'm happy with the sound.

I'll check as I guess the alpina is the carver system.

Thank you
Paul

Welcome to the forum, nice to have another Alpina owner on board - we need some pics and what's the build number of your car?

Last owner must have been a bit confused - the slot in the dash-mounted head unit is for playing CDs, the Navigation DVD unit is between the seats below the CD autochanger.

Wouldn’t it have BT Perry if it has nav. Thought there was only two specs non Lux and Lux.

Yes it's got bluetooth - the OP said that he's got his phone paired but finds the system 'a bit fiddly', which is a fair comment for that generation of cars...

Welcome to the forum, as above we need photos
If you are interested there is a breakfast meet at AV8 - Cotswold airport next weekend. Thread is in the Meets section https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=109372

Would be good to see another Alpina there.

Folks

Am I using this forum correctly? So my motor is #185. How do I know out of the 167 built RHD which is mine?

Keen to find out do I upgrade BMW Nav Head Unit to a professional and improve bluetooth and a USB port. :dizzy:

Cheers
Paul

With the flip up nav, there is nothing you can do to upgrade. Other than firmware and maps that is.

Not unless you rip it out and whack an android tablet in the case.

SRHutch,

Sounds like you have the same head unit as me then (labelled on the unit as BMW navigation). I can find out online, but no doubt you know what the latest firmware is and how do I get it updated if necessary.

First off,we can only talk about legal options on the forum.

Latest firmware is V32, I can email this over to you if you PM me your address. You burn the image to a CD at the slowest possible speed 1-4x is beat.

Maps are "BMW HIGH" version, legal version only from dealer which are expensive. I've just bought a used original 2016 map from here for £22. For other options you are on your own though

This will help, you will see the version in the top right of the screen in the video. V32 is 4/100 from memory.

Even the Alpina factory records are (slightly) ambiguous but the accepted number built overall is 370 - all cars, LHD or RHD, were assigned sequential build numbers and your build number just means that your car was #185 out of the 370 built.

According to my records your car, #185, would have been the 86th RHD car assigned a build number. It was part of a batch of Z4s assembled at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina in June 2004 and subsequently transported to the Alpina plant in Buchloe, Germany for dismantling/conversion to Alpina specification. This takes some time and, after conversion, it was then shipped to the UK and had it's first UK registration in April 2005.

Did some checks on my Z4 with help from you guys. Just bought what seems to be a BMW Nav disc 2018 with firmware for £22 ish. Seems like a bargain. Search on Ebay for (GENUINE BMW 2018 High Navigation Maps Europe Sat Nav Disc DVD X5 E53 Z4 E46 M3).

It looks like a 2018 version. Looks good to me. Might help you guys out.
