Z4 E85 4-seater alternative?

Problem is that 996s are the cheapest 911. 993s are expensive and so old inside I personally wouldn't want one.

3 series is what I'd plump for. Thats what I wanted to get when I bought my a4 cab but they were too expensive.
 
I'm more thinking of a 911 oldtimer, certainly not the 993, those are too high value. And the 996 is just too unreliable, even the Porsche specialists are telling me not to get one of those...

Audi s4 would be a good choice,forget the 2 litre variant gutless even when remapped and crap on petrol too.
 
I admire your thinking, but moving swiftly back to the real world any performance convertible is by it's nature cramped, bumpy, windy and nice inside. Babies and sports cars don't mix! I'll guarantee you would give it a couple of goes and not bother again, I'd keep Z4 as your guilty pleasure and maybe put the cash in to an interesting family motor.

We already have 2 large family cars: Skoda Superp Combi as of october (to replace a Volvo V50) and a BMW X1. So I'm definitely not using the sportscar as a daily, purely for fun, short drives or city trips. For the holidays, we'll probably use the Skoda. If the baby would join us in the sports car, surely we would close the sot top (if any) and drive carefully. It's not because it's a sportscar that it has to be uncomfortable all the time.

Apparently the backseat is too small after all, to be able to a fit a kiddie seat...
So still looking for alternatives... A5 and 6-series too expensive for the moment and the Z4 coupe does not have a backseat (don't know why I thought it did)

The 1-series convertible with a nice engine (125i or so) seems best alternative so far...
 
We've been talking about the options, and it does not necessarily have to be a convertible. But even then, the only alternatives are the 911 and the TT... everything else is just a car, not a sportscar...
 
e46M3 would be prefect,but probably out of your budget if you want an unmolested example.
e46 330ci convertible springs to mind. It had undergone a facelift in mid 2003 so from that year onwards, ideally 2005 model year.
Or a 135i as it can be tuned to circa 360 bhp.
Possibly also e93 330i or if you can stretch the budget then 335i !
Brera 3.2 spider? All wheel drive, beautiful car, but not amazing to drive as it's quite heavy.
Volkswagen Eos 3.2? V6, metal roof coupe cab, nice interior, sounds great. Don't know how it drives.
 
What about the Porsche 924/928/944? I know it is not the most loved Porsche out there, but they have some nice engines tho?

Anyone have any (good/bad) experience with those? How does it compare to the Zed (I have a 2.2i mind you)?
