Z4 E85 3.0si Running Costs

Hello all

I'm just inquiring to find out the general running costs, in particular servicing etc for a Z4 E85 3.0si.

The model I'm looking at purchasing is an '08 Z4 roadster with 24k miles.

Am I right in thinking the service schedule is: oil service > inspection1 > oil service > inspection2, and so on?

What are the servicing costs of the above from say, a main dealer?

thanks

Yes thats correct. And brake fluid every 2 years I think.

Not sure on costs. Varies quite a lot by location of dealer as well, best to ring your local one where you'll be taking it to find out.

I've just had an oil service, micro filter and brake fluid done at a main dealer for 280 quid.

Service intervals are either by mileage which varies on how you drive it or every 2 years depending on which comes first.

You can get anything from 15k to 20k between services depending on what the cars computer calculates.

I'm still trying to get my head around servicing. My Civic Type R was service every 12500 and an oil change in between 6000.

My Z was serviced around mid last year and its still saying 12k until next service which just feels too long to me.

I've only just bought the car but I think ill do an oil change soon for peace of mind.

I am advised with my E46 M3 to do an oil change every 6k, but I know that engine is more finely tuned than the 3.0si in the Z4 and requires more attention. I'm not sure if it will be worth the extra oil service in the Z4.

Only service I've had done is an Inspection 1 at Peter Vardy in Edinburgh, £320 including oil and £200 without (supplied my own, was £55 online for 8l).

My first oil service was at 8-9K miles, after 2 years..... i got the oil myself and an indy to change the oil, filter and brake fluid. total cost was something lie £90 (inc getting the oil!)

Inspec 1 i had at a maindealer - cost me £200 something...

Its been over a yr an a half since my inspection so want to get an oild change soon.

Mark-Z4, trust the service intervals - the straight 6 is a completely different engine to the Honda you had. I've not heard of any problems caused by following the recommended timescales - won't do any harm, but would feel like a waste of money to me. Just IMO of course :D

If you're looking at service intervals of 18 months or more, then I think an intermediate oil change is probably worthwhile. Cheap maintenance really, and peace of mind.

No need to do this at a dealer though - DIY, or most garages will allow you to 'bring your own' oil and filter.

If you're not driving it a lot I agree - and the book says no more than two years between services irrespective of mileage. I'll do 15k miles in a year though, so it makes sense just to stick to the schedule.

I have but one sentence that will suffice as a benchmark.

It costs me much less - in parts and maintenance - than my 2005 Hyundai Tiburon V6.

And, needless to say, in terms of performance and general roadworthiness the two cars are worlds apart.

Sorry, that post wasn't directed at you, Bing! I think we agree though, stick to the schedule unless your miles are very low.

Yea I know, I'm still adjusting to the Z4, even when driving it....I don't have to rev the nuts off it like the CTR.

I think I've just got to trust it and let it tell me when it wants a service.
