z4 e85 2007 subwoofer amp install with hi level convertor

hi everyone ,

im new to this forum

have been researching everywhere on how to install a Subwoofer amp to the factory stereo , everyones facing so many problems and there's no certain solution
how ever i finished my install today , took me about 90 mins . fitted everything in the boot it self with hi level convertor
i take it that my car is 6 speaker version

remote wire - i opened the left tail light cover and could see a white wire which i made the remote wire
earth wire - again so many bolt on screws behind tail light cover
positive wire - straight from battery

the main problem i faced was the speaker wire i used for the hi low level converter was the left and rear mid speaker wires as i couldn't find the colors for the front woofer wires
im unable to access any WDS for z4 2.0 2007 !! ??
if any one can please get the right wire colors it might have a good impact on the out put as of now it does sound better but not upto the mark .

looks an interesting project. I have some Rockford Fosgate gear somewhere I might chuck inthe Z4.

I was wondering if there is an active crossover hidden somewhere in the BMW system. Which is directing the various frequencies to the appropriate standard speakers. If this was the case, using the high-level output to the mids would mean you were amplifying an incomplete signal.

Are you running any other speakers of the amp or just the sub?

hi ,
im not sure about the cross overs , as i just lifted the wall carpet behind the seats and connected to hi low converter with the rear speakers wire
and just connected the sub with the amp , need a better amp though lol

There are NO passive crossovers on the speakers provided in the Z4 at ANY level of hifi option.

if you have a DSP amp, then you have active crossovers within the amp that are digitally controlled from the headunit.

If you don't have DSP, then you don't have any crossovers - active or passive



I don't have a WDS for the 2007 at present, but I do have the pinout from the back of the headunit... which should allow you to chase the wires:

Interesting SK93 - so all feeds should be full-frequency. Also note there are line-outs (if you have the newer 40 pin connector)......Blood-game, I have used high-lows in the past, they tend to degrade the quality, which then means your power-amp is amplifying the degraded sound. If you have the 40 pin connector, it would definitely pay to pick up the line-outs.......
Also, am assuming you have switched the crossover (usually 80hz) on your amp, if you are just driving the sub.

Thought about some more since my last post - I often turn the stereo off to listen to the exhaust....will leave mine standard.

To anyone considering an upgrade, cheap LOCs generally equal cheap sound quality
 
i didnt want to change the stalk look but ill have too , i already have parrot kit installed which is so sh*t , going to get pioneer 7500 BT (hopefully can change led keys to orange)and if some one can please guide me on how to take RC lead from the head unit to the boot of theer car properly 8)

Has anyone had success picking up the low level line outs

Wasn't your setup to replace existing amp in boot,
Mines just the basic 6 speaker but noticed on wiring diagram for the quad lock on head unit it shows L/R low level an common, did try lashing it up yesterday but no luck, might have another try.
 
it was indeed.
L/R is common, as the headunit doesn't change partnumbers across cars.
Also, can't be BUS related, as otherwise the HU would turn it off on my car as I've no amp to tell it to use DSP.
There is, AFAIR, perhaps a coding option that can be set.
If memory serves, NavCoder allows you to recode the headunit.. it MAY be an option in there.
I can't remember however, and don't currently have ability to fire up navcoder (leant my laptop out)
