Z4 E85 2005 rear parking sensors

Hello to you all, new to this site as I have just bought myself a 2005 3.0 automatic z4 however the rear parking sensors are not working, when I put the car into reverse sometimes it gives a long continuous tone even though Im not moving, but when I get close to an object there is know tones, just was wondering if someone could advise where the control unit is for the sensors.

Just looked it up on the TIS and it's in the right side of the boot behind the side carpet trim. Just forward of the boot interior light.
 
Its usually just the sensors on all BMW's of this sort of age, easy way to check is have someone stick it in reverse while you go to the back and gently touch each sensor in turn. you should notice a slight vibration from each sensor that is not there when not in reverse. if a sensor doesn't vibrate its probably goosed and thats your issue. worth trying before ripping the boot apart if you haven't already done so.

Checked all the sensors on the bumper when the ignition is on and car is in reverse, each sensor is ticking, and other ideas mate?
 
You didn't jet wash it by any chance did you? BMW sensors of this vintage are quite susceptible to water ingress from jet washing etc giving issues. quite often they dry out on their own and the problem can magically disappear until the next time you wash it. Obviously it could be anything in the system from a dodgy connection to the unit itself but the most common faults are centered around the sensors themselves. another thing to check is all four sensors are seated correctly, have seen it in the past where a sensor has been dislodged slightly and this is causing issues by picking up the bumper itself or floor etc. If not can you scan it or have it scanned that should reveal where the fault is in the system.

If the bumper and sensors have been resprayed it can cause them to fail, that's why they are available in different colours. Good luck! Dell.
