Z4 E85 2.5i manual sump - help!

Hi everyone
Hoping I can find someone who has had the same issue as me

My engine sump for my 2008 Z4 E85 2.5i manual is rusted and needs replacing... however the only place I have been able to find the replacement part is direct with BMW... ££££

Anyone been in need of one of these and any advice as to where to get one to save a few bob?

Thanks in advance :D

hiya

Thanks ever so much for replying

BMW is almost £500 plus fitting and I've tried quite a few breakers and none - loads for autos and loads for the older pre 06, seems a scarcity of mine!

Any breakers you could recommend?

How much without, it's DIY able on ramps and I'm sure you'd still be on even money if you purchased expensive ramps and the tools.

These guys on ebay are worth asking: http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/classiccarspares2015?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754?

They're actually one of the ones I've tried. On eBay also topbmw, ukvehicledismantlers hallgreenspares and partscity.

I'm not too au fait on the e and n nos relating to the engine and chassis, but think I might have struck lucky with this one based on engine no - Item listing only states x3 however BMW have given me part no 1137553264, and the part no listed just omits the 113...

Thanks

Also my pop is my absolute hero and has access to ramps at his workshop :D no labour costs he's a gem

Hi Kezza,

what is the actual issue with the sump ? I know you have said it is rusting, but is it leaking ? Would it be possible to remove, clean, weld and coat in a good rust treatment ?

If not, the same N43 engine was used in the E90 316i. Have you tried the breakers for one of these ?

Cheers, James

Hiya James :)

It's rusted and consequently it's flaked away around the sensor which has resulted in a leak - only minor, I've put in 500ml of oil since March so it's not flooding out.

I've actually bought the above linked one now as it's got the part no advised by BMW stamped onto the part itself so should be safe with it, and looks in decent condition for a 2nd hand bit of steel.

According to BMW mine is an N52 not an N43... confusion continues!

Thanks for all of your help... once sump arrives I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi Kezza,

Correct you have an N52 engine, not an N43 - Must have been having a dozy moment as I was sure I read you had a 2L :headbang:

Must sleep more ....

James
