I've been reading everything I can on these amps for the past few weeks and every time I get ready to pull the trigger I get cold feet because of all the horror stories I've read about amps not working when they theoretically should, etc. I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer for me.
I have an 04/04 roadster with the Top HIFI sound system. I had a leak in my trunk and the amp took a swim. Tried to clean the corrosion off the amp but it seems that it's too far gone. My amp model number is 65126938189 and is branded Carver (vs Redstar for the later productions). Pretty difficult to find my exact model number so when I look at the supersessions everything after it is a Redstar branded amp instead of Carver. The models all also say exchangeable retrospectively which two BMW dealers have now told me means that a newer amp will work in an older car but not the other way around. What I take this to mean is that if I want a Carver branded amp then I have to get my exact model number or I need one of the newer Redstar models.
Does anyone know if there is a functional or sound quality difference between the Carver vs. Redstar models? I'm also under the impression that I will most likely have to code the amp, is this also true if the amp is used and came out of another roadster?
