Z4 Door Problem

Hey everyone,

Got a 55 plate Z4 and today when i got in it i noticed that the drivers door window will not go fully up, it goes up as far as if the door was open but wont go any more, as i started to drive i noticed the door open light was on even though all doors and boot are closed. The passenger door and window is fine but my window is still slightly open and i cant lock the car on a key because i think the car thinks the door is still open even when its not...

Anyone had this problem or know what it might be? :tumbleweed:

Not sure what your ability is, sorry if any of this is too low brow...

Just had a look at my car and think I've found the trigger mechanism! Try this on your passenger door to see what I mean...
On the door itself you should be able to see the latch.

When this is pushed in it triggers the window to go back up and tells the car that the door is closed. If you use something like a screwdriver to push the last in manually you'll notice the window go up. If you pull the handle it re-opens the latch.

Blurred shot of the latch open (it's dark and the camera battery is about to die!):

This is what it should look like when closed (blurred also):

It took a couple of pushes to get it to this stage, might be sticking on one?

Now, if you are lucky the part mentioned above will be sticking on the drivers door and opening the door and operating manually may release it. You may want to grease the latch if that is the case.

This is you lock assembly on REALOEM:

Otherwise I either another part of the latch has come loose or a connecting cable most likely inside the door Either way I suspect that it may be a door trim off operation. I'd do a search for that one.

I'll see if I can find the correct parts names and edit the above to make more sense... with a bit of luck someone who's seen inside the door will be along to clarify.

Hey buddy, Thanks for the reply... when did you take those pictures?

Yeah i did try that, it was my first thought, im going to have another go tomorrow, the weathers lousy at the moment and i dont wanna risk having the window go any further down so i will leave it until its light and give it a try, Im soon to be getting a new shape but its been an awesome car, hardly any problems at all.

That's a pain, was hoping it would be a quick fix for you!

Took the pics about 5 minutes before posting... it was bothering me because I didn't know where the switch was so I popped down to the garage!

It might be worth check to see if the window will go up from the button (if you're worried about it going down further just try and move it up the 5mm or so that it drops on opening) - prove that there is a working connection from the car... assuming the power goes out on the loom that sends the door closed instruction back. Logically I suspect that it is the connection to the latch as this is the single point serving two failures - the window operation and door signal.

I'm sure there are a couple posts on here about removing the door trim.

Good luck!
