Z4 Depreciation Prices

Guys, don't forget not everyone is 23 with no family, no kids and unlimited zest for life and spending all that disposable income

Many of us have been there done that (though I have never owned 'exotica' - I wish), so we have travelled through the ranks of company / family cars and ended up, finally, with a Z. And whilst I know where you are coming from Tom, eventually it will be possible for most people to be happy with something as 'lowly' as a Z4 for longer than it takes for another attractive model to catch our eye. Kinda like getting married now I think about it :D

No I don't mean it like that, if a Z was 'lowly' I wouldn't have one ;)!

But your right about commitments, which does cloud my judgement. I was generally meaning that there is aim. Whether you get to exotica is a different answer all together but can always wish haha! Maybe im just a like a magpie I dont know.

But when the kids get through Uni and other funds are freed up all hell will break loose bing!

Tom, I am sooooo with you on all of that :D

Seriously, just ignore old farts like me - I am genuinely impressed and chuffed for you that at 23 you can (and should) aim so high, and enjoy the ALL the good things in life. Me, I am going to be driving my Lamborghini round KL in Malaysia when Wee Bing is doing a tomscott and I have finally retired

Interesting, just done some sums, i bought mine in September 2004 for a total cost of 38,000 with the extra toys, theres one going on ebay for 6800 of similar spec and miles so that means its cost me about 325 quid a month in depreciation? I wouldn't say that is bad going considering that is about what you would pay to lease a bog standard 3 series... the Z4's both E85/86 still seem sought after or at least people don't seem to realise you can buy them for 6k.. i believe people just assume they cost a lot more without looking into it.

I find when you get out and drive something else for a while, get back in you then realise you dont need to upgrade for a while haha.

I'll prob change mine when i have kids. (bought mine at 22 now 30 so that is fast approaching!) haha

One persons loss is another gain.

Its a lot of car for what is 5k to 6k starting money and most would not be able to justify the original 30k+.

Depreciation is a fact of life,we're all in the same boat,no matter what age or model of Z we drive.Remember the old saying,"there's always somebody worse off than you are" and in this instance it's me

Depreciation on cars is a fact of life but you can make a considered choice and save yourself a lot of cash. That doesn't mean you have to restrict yourself but just do your research.

The current e89 is a good example -
BMW have been giving away the s-drive 2.0i's on PCP without a care for people who bought the cars outright. The result will be a tidal wave of depreciation. A classic example of short-term expediency (chasing sales volume) over long term brand protection. Strong residuals used to be one of the pillars of this brand but they have slowly destroyed these by their own actions.

When you buy a car find out what the retained value estimates are (usually quoted based on 3-years and 36k miles) and look in the classifieds too. At least if you do that you will go into ownership with your eyes wide open.

Even within a certain range there can be big differences - a 911GT3 will depreciate much slower than a 911 turbo for example.

I always aim to have more equity in the car each time I swap (which is usually at the end of the finance). I don't believe in PCP. So far this approach has served me well.

Sounds right. As a buyer, 6 yrs + and over 70k wouldn't be a good start with an AUC

They're selective. Take a look on AUC at the moment and check out the Z3M coupes and the price they are asking or them!

Tapatalking...

I've seen salvaged cars listed for $6500 which is 4144.87 in euros. So that is the lowest it could go for at this time I'm reckoning.

There's a 2007 Z4M Coupe for sale in Iceland for 53.000 GBP and a 2003 Z4 2.5i Roadster for 19.350 GBP. These are the only ones listed as being for sale in Iceland, but there are about 6 - 8 cars on the road in total.

Are they left hand drive? I spot a business opportunity here. Who wants in?

Haha, yes, all of them are LHD as we drive on the ... right ... side of the road. You'll have to take in customs and taxes when looking at these prices though, so let's take a random Z4M as an example:

Ad price: 15.995 GBP for a beautiful Interlagos blue 2007 Z4M Coupe
Shipping: Let's make it a rought estimate of 1000 GBP

The "fun" part:

((Price + Shipping Price) x Excise Tax) x VAT

So:

((15995 + 1000) x 59%) x 25.5% = 33913 GBP

I honestly think the calculator I'm using is broken, since this is surprisingly "cheap"!

Well, the LHD part will make this trickier. I'm sure its possible

OMG......if I was concerned with depreciation my day would be ruined .....however I look at it like this ...if the car looses £5000 in 12 months its cost me £100 a week in depreciation......could I hire a car like this for that sum?
And why stop at cars ? Why take your other half to a decent restaurant when a McDonalds is cheaper? Sad fact of life we cant compare our cars to bricks and mortar :fuelfire:

What u bought at and what it's worth aren't related in the motor industry!!!
