Z4 coupe - which HID kit?

yea i have H7 halogens (assume that's what u mean?)
also i already have 2 different type sets of LED sidelights ready to try out and match to the HID kit once installed.

also a side note.... as my h7 driving lights are already upgraded to OSRAM Nightbreakers... would it be worth putting these in the high beam (as there also H7 i believe, i assume they have standard bulbs atm so surely this would also be an upgrade??)

ok so now looking into these, can you confirm which kits you both bought?

Darkangelv2: which kit did you buy?

also just checking there's nothing else i will need to buy.... literally ONLY this kit and thats it?

thanks

Literally the identical kit but from Hids Direct (heard good things about their customer service).

Just had a look back through your posts and it seems so. When you pull the old bulb put you take the connector off of the back and use this later. You'll need to remove the little metal attachment from the plug as this will be used to secure the HID bulb. It's a bit fiddly getting the connections through this opening but with a bit of elbow grease it goes through.

I cut off the rubber seal thing as I was installing the kit within the headlight.

When it arrives it all makes sense really and is not as technical as one would think.

I did mine with wheels on etc but it does get cosy. Might be easier without as you'll have more room to fiddle.

Hope all that helps and you will soon be one happy zed driver when the sun sets.

yea i want to install it all inside, i assume u used the tutorial linked earlier in this thread? (i saw the good idea about sticking the removed metal connector to inside of the case with a big blob of silicone so its always there in emergency if your HID fails for any reason(or needs swapping over quickly for MOT))

also i need to repair a broken headlight fixing lug so i think im gonna remove bumper and both lights anyway so will be even easier as will do the whole lot on a workbench

I thought the high beams were usually a higher wattage, could be wrong.

sorry for all the posts guys lol but just making sure..

found the same kit for £43.95p http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-CANBUS-TERMINATOR-HID-XENON-CONVERSION-SLIM-KIT-2014-H7-35W-6000K-8k-10k-12k-/181755079467?hash=item2a51726b2b:g:icAAAOSwBLlVG~Fi

what colour you both go for? im thinking 5000K or maybe 6000K as i kinda like the slight blue hint... does the 5000K have a slight hint?

the description from the kit says:
4300K oem Warm White
5000K White
6000K Diamond White (slight hint of Blue)
8000K Iceberg Blue
10,000K Aqua Blue
12,000K Blue/Purple

I went for 5000k as didn't want too much blue.

Re Q about main beams, honest answer, don't know. I'm happy with mine as obviously you only use them when no one else is around so visibility is fine.

You need to use the metal bit to secure the HID bulb to the projector. The only waste product from the installation (if you put it all inside the light) is the rubber seals on the kit. These are in the kit so when you drill through the back of your headlights it keeps a seal. As mine was internal I didn't need it and technically you need to cut this off to get metal clip over the connectors

Where did you guys mount the ballasts? My TVR has had HIDs for 10+ years now and they are great. My Z4 kit melted after 2 weeks! maybe the ballasts were touching something?

It's stuck to the inner wall of the headlights, nearest the grill as it were. Seemed a good sized space.

They do mention they get hot but I'm hoping it'll be ok. Although I have auto lights I will now only use the manual switch so that the HIDs are only on when needed. Hopefully that will prolong the ballasts

just ordered and went for the 6000K and hope it isnt too blue :)

did u buy any extra sticky pads or velcro to attach the ballast inside the light or does the supplied kit bits do the job? (the tutorial mentions using velcro?)

I'd keep it at 5000K or less as the more blue it is the more likely a cop might fancy pulling you over to find illegal headlights.

To be honest as they are in the headlight itself and via a projector lamp most people will think they are xenon. Only the true petrol head will know.

Jingle they look massive. The 55w has a beast of a ballast.

That's why we've suggested the slim 35w so that it can all fit inside the headlight. Otherwise you may find yourself having to mount the ballets in the engine bay.

Well that's ball ache. I see you've gone for 55w. I stuck to 35w so it will be interesting to see the results. Can you call HIDs direct and ask for next day delivery? You'll obviously need to pay more but at least you'll get them on time.

that kit has been installed by a fellow forum member so should be ok (i hope)

and guess F*cking what!!!! now the HID-Direct website wont accept payment :headbang: and yes i have money in the account etc its just not accepting paypal for some reason so ive tried a few times and now waiting for an email back before i try and order from a 3rd place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so annoyed!

WOW - what a joke that company is :@

had so much trouble trying to order Thursday at work during the day and it wouldn't let me, tried calling and no answer, so emailed. so i tried again on my home PC later that evening and managed to place an order Thursday night...... i used the code "SOCIAL5" to get 5% off. got email notification and order number etc so order was placed! at this stage i was happy ....

kept checking over the weekend and it kept saying the order was "Awaiting Fulfillment" and the money had not shown up coming out of my bank so clearly there was some kind of error, i re-ordered again this morning after 5 days, but the "SOCIAL5" code wouldn't work so no discount  and got a 2nd order confirmation email and the money went out my account straight away (something which didnt happen the 1st time, 5 days earlier), then emailed them to let them know i was having trouble and i was worried it wasn't working or i would be charged twice as the new order, altho showing the money HAD come out of my account now(for the 2nd order) still didnt show the 1st time.

they then ring my mum (phone number i signed up with as i never have signal at work) and she informs me that they have received 2 payments and will refund me 1 of the orders and process with the other and i will receive them wed or Thursday. just checked account and they have kindly refunded me the DISCOUNTED order (from last f*cking week) and charged me for the non discounted price. so altho i ordered last thursday for cheaper, i have now paid more and been made longer to receive my goods.

not a massive difference in price, only a couple of quid, but thats not the point, ive been messed about, ignored ALL emails ive sent them and now been made to wait over a week. not cool :(
