Its not exactly been pampered with regard servicing & at best it can be described as "stretched"
By rights id be looking for 4 stamps by 60k & ins2 being one of them

* I'll probably list standard features now so apologies, but it's leather, dual cup holders, parking aid, heated electric seats, metallic, cruise, 18" 108s
* I did drive it and it drove well with no noticeable knocks although it was the first Coupe I've driven (previously I've tested Roadsters) so I've not got a proper comparison, especially as the Roadsters were SE and didn't feel as stiff (as expected)
The insp 1 on my old car was done at 30k and at 4.5 years old (so 6 months late). It made no difference to the car though!

I serviced my coupe early according to the miles left on the indicator and it still went 18500 miles between oil service and inspection. It had done a lot of motorway work mind.

Hi all, new to this and looking to buy a Z4M Coupe, this appeared to be an appropriate place to post...
One I am looking at has the following history:
Run in 1100 miles in 2008
oil 11k in 2010
Insp I 31k in 2013
and it is about to have an inspection II at 34k miles.
The dealer has said they will do the Insp. II before I buy, although not sure it is needed yet. Car is impeccable, MOT history stacks up, lost service book, but have been in contact with the main dealers who have confirmed the services. The previous owner is a collector who purchased it in 2013 and has 'stored' it for a couple of years, but has taken it out for MOT's and about 600 miles a year. I have been told he has a large collection and all cars are on trickle charges... started regularly etc. Dealer is also providing a 12 month warrantee.
Any major concerns here? My concern is with the 20k gap and 3 years between the two services?

As you've stated the major concern would be the 3 year gap between the oil change in 2010 and insp 1 in 2013. Perhaps the months may come into play here as if the oil change was dec 2010 and the insp 1 was Jan 2013 its not big deal. Otherwise for me the oil has been sat for 3 years and been used which could cause some degradation to engine components. BMW state you must change oil every 2 years if you do not meet the minimum mileage requirement. Unfortunately the E86 as an older car now does not have a link between time based servicing and mileage based servicing so it does not warn you. Many owners just went on the mileage and so 31k fits in perfectly.
Its very hard to tell if its something you should be worried about or not. Im not an engine expert, but I fear you would need to have the entire engine removed, disassembled and analysed bit by bit to know for sure. Otherwise, take a punt and enjoy the car for the next 5 years (or however long you plan to own it).

Thanks for the reply. I plan to keep the car for at least a few years, still undecided, but I expect I will take a punt. It is still possible as well that one service is missing. The car was sold through a BMW main dealer in early 2012, 2 years approx. after the service, so it appears very odd that they would not have serviced it when sold.
Or on the contrary not at all as dealers are lazy and look to make as much as they feasibly can. As you say though it is odd!
