Z4 Coupe Service History

Looking at a 57 auto Coupe with 36000 miles, service book shows only 3 services one at 14000 miles oil service, one at 29000 miles insp 1 and brake fluid and one at 35600 another Insp 1. Is this a problem as I assumed service should be every 2 years or 15000 miles whichever comes soonest??

You got it right with the service frequency requirements.

This would not put me off to buy the car, I would at least try to see it. After all we are talking about 2 missing oil changes on a reliable engine. So what you want to find out is if the car shows other signs of "mistreatments" else than the poor servicing...

Try to find out the number of owners: is it a first-hand car owned by someone not aware of the 2 years service requirement, but treated the rest of the car properly, or was it owned several times by careless people just willing to have fun before selling it again?
How looks the interior, how does the car feels on the road and how does the engine sound? Get a good mechanic with you if you don't feel comfortable.
Don't forget as well the car is 10 years old, there are other areas that require good inspection if the car was not maintained regularly. (suspension, control arms, exhaust, air conditionning maybe, etc...).
You may even want to contact the dealership where it was serviced, ask them what they think of it or if they even know the car? (can always try although, we all know what to expect from BMW aftersale service...).
Good luck!

Thanks Zeddicus, will do. Its had 5 owners, First service was in 2010 at 13766 miles Oil service and Brake Fluid at Coopers BMW Second service in 2012 at 29745 miles Insp 1 and Brake fluid also Coopers. Thats seems fine, then the car has not done a lot of miles but next service is not until Jan 2018 which was an Oil and Inspection 1 at 35648,at a BMW indy so thats seems to be when it went through a lot of owners who just drove it a bit and not much else. Its due rear tyres at least and is still on run flats, so need to budjet for that.

It's a shame it's had a couple of less than careful owners, but from the look of things at least they didn't do many miles with it! Although I'd check the MOT history to see if it verifies that.

Otherwise I'm with Zeddicus - it wouldn't necessarily put me off either.

Hope it checks out.

In that case, I would buy cheap, minimize all ownership costs (same as previous owners did!) and enjoy it for some time before reselling it?
