My Z4 Coupe is now gone, replaced by an older car (e39 530i because F10 5 is too expensive and e60 doesn't look as good). I thought I should compile my thoughts on Z4 and share with you kind people here.
Car Details:
Z4 3.0si Sport Coupe (Auto)
Ruby Black Metallic
Dream Red Leather/Black Interior
Confort Pack (Multi-Function Stearing Wheel, Storage Compartment Pack, Parking Distance Control)
Front Seat Heating

General Impressions:
This was one of the most exciting car's I have owned, never failed to deliver fun driving experience. There were a couple of issues, one of them down to my selection of the gearbox, otherwise just a great car.
Handling/Performance:
Simply put outstanding, accelerated very very well, stuck to the road better than most other cars. Tram-lining was a bit of an issue with run-flats but was sorted out by extra 2 PSI pressure in tyres.
Engine:
It is such a great engine, power, economy (I got 29 MPG average over ownership) and that great, great sound that is audible starting from around 3000 RPM all the way to red-line (switch to manual mode exit round about in first gear and enjoy the music).
Transmission:
I got Auto, as when I purchased the car I was spending a lot of time driving for work and basically being stuck in traffic on M25. 2 Months later I switched jobs and now never drive for work, mostly work from home and drive my car on the weekend. I would have definitely gone for manual if I bought the car after the job switch. Having said that the auto transmission is not bad at all, especially if you take time to learn counter-intutive(to me) manual mode.
Comfort:
Not the most comfortable car but I never got tiered driving it. My wife however felt it was tiering for the passenger, even while cruising on motorway. I think the main issue here was the run-flat tyres again. Seats were very comfy and I always felt it offered a nice driving environment. There also was of rattling from interior panels, BMW looked at it twice and claimed to have sorted it out but it came back on the drive back home.
Economy:
29 MPG on overage for me, which I think was pretty good for the kind of car this is (I am getting around 22 MPG on my new-old 530). Got it serviced once at around 15000 miles don't remember the exact amount but was not something that made me think this is expensive (or cheap). I was told by some people in the know that the tyres will last only for 5-6000 miles, 22000 miles later they still had about 4mm tread on the rear wheels.
Build Quality:
Generally OK but not as good as older BMWs I owned previously (and now). Paint was bit too easy to chip I felt and the interior rattled non-stop from the day I got it. Can't think of any other problem areas.
What would I do different if I were to buy Z4 now: Get manual gears try and find tyres better suited (more comfortable) for the chassis.
