Z4 Coupe - Everyday Proposition??

Welcome to the forum.

I use mine daily and I love it. No problems whatsoever and fuel economy is surprisingly good considering all the factors. I had 46mpg the other week on the A1, 6th gear and 50mph roadworks speed limit for miles. Although I have a heavy foot most of the time so very rarely get that. But still, it's good.

I use mine as a daily driver too. It's rapid when you want it to be but is a good cruiser too and on longer journeys getting over 30mpg is no issue, no matter how you drive them. My only slight gripe is that the clutch gets a bit heavy if you are stuck in a lot of traffic jams

Hi Again!

What a great collection of comments. It certainly seems that these are not as much of a pampered 3rd car as I thought.. MPG averages seem ok for good amount of use. Is the Run Flat replacement a pain in the proverbial with the insurance guys or has a precedent been set generally?

Cheers

Thank you ALL of you for the quick responses..

I assume the Z4M is TOO expensive and TOO harsh to run every day on 500+ mile weeks, every week?

I use my M as a daily driver, and I love every minute - even the London traffic jams! I really don't find it harsh except over the worst of the UK roads, and most pot holes can be avoided anyway. With regard to economy, it's easy to get over 30mpg on motorways if you can keep it at 70-75mph. Of course, in that, there's the rub...

Mines a London car too...it's a bit heavy in traffic but worth it for when you're not ?

To those claiming 40MPG+ out of the 3.0, don't believe everything your OBC says :)

The extra running costs of the M are not as big as most believe. I had a 3.0Si as a daily driver and changed to an M last September. I've not noticed the extra running costs but I have had some fantastic drives. I did 250 miles to Birmingham today and it was fun. I can't say that about other trips to Brummy Land.

Having said that - if you are looking to run a Z4 on the cheap then go for the Si - the fuel economy is good, cheap maintenance and cheap tyres.

Thanks! I am not looking for cheap really (having had two M5s I know the costs with M cars).. More the fuel economy on the main slog.. There are days when you just need to mainly commute and I do not plan to have TWO cars for the journey.

I would think of mods for the 3.0 Si that might mean a Z4M makes sense anyway (love quad exhausts, better brakes, Nicer bodykit). Not blown away with the M alloys and have seen the beauty of these cars with some staggered fit CSLs or replicas.. Fantastic!

The resale of a higher mileage Z seems to be easier I assume with the standard 3.0 rather than M variant (The nightmare I had selling an E39 M5 V8 at 70k miles was not fun)..

My E85 roadster has been my main car now for nearly 6 years. I never meant to keep it that long, it just happened!

I average 32-33mpg around town comfortably, and on a run I can get high 30's and still drive at a decent speed.

You'd have no problem with a Coupe as your main car.
