Z4 Coupe Collection day

I am picking up a silver z4 coupe tomorrow. Its a 2008 model and auto.
Everything seems great with it . A friend is coming with who is quite decent at car basics.

Regarding the Z4 Coupe is there anything I need to especially look out for?
Thanks in advance.

E86s are great cars, but as I'm on my 3rd I might be slightly biased!

It's worth checking the tailgate for any signs of rust around the edges when it is open - some got replaced under the 12 year warranty but on an 08 plate that will have expired last year.

The rear brake pipes go under the car beneath the passenger seat in a plastic cover but can suffer from corrosion behind the rear of the cover where road debris builds up.

The N52 engine in 3.0Si models is a great engine, but has an electric water pump which will at some point die resulting in overheating within a mile! New ones made by Pierburg (who made the originals) cost around £250 - or £500 from BMW! My 1st Coupe needed a new one after 60K miles, but my 2nd was still on the original after 90K. If you find any evidence of the car having had a new one that's a bonus.

I can't think of anything else specific to them apart from the usual checks you would do for any 12 year old car.

Hope it goes well, then you can post some photos.

Basics in most cars , such as history, HPI checks ( even if the dealer, if that's where you are getting it from says its been checked, still do your own. my sister bought a 18k mini from a car dealer said it was clear but I said to do a check and found outstanding finance still on the car), general items such as tyres, panel gaps, brake discs , MOT history, paint differences, lower lever damage from low riding and speed humps, engine ticking from cold, oil leaks from rocker cover or oil filter housing, any noises from driving such as diff, screen chips, bolster wear on seats, so called performance mods and execution of fitting them.
Its a start anyway

That’s lovely. Welcome to the forum. Any plans for your new addition?

No real plans. I am 48 so my modding days are long over.
I'd love to add the 10' touch screen and replace the flip up useless sat nav but it's such a risk.

Dab Highway perhaps or a decent bluetooth addon so i can stream is the only thing i need.

Car has some kind of 5 year paint protection on it.
Alloys look ok to me, run flats......to be honest car feels good and even over bumps so no need to change yet.

At least with the later model you'll be able to plug the Pure Highway (or other solution) via the aux port and not rely on the flaky FM transmitter option

Looks very nice. It may be the angle of the photo, but in comparison with other pics on here the rear wheels look like they may have spacers on?

Your car is looking good.

I hope you've been able to put some miles on it!
