Z4 Coupe Boot Rattle

Hi all,
I have searched the forums for this topic, and i get a lot of hits for the roadster, but not much on the coupe.

So, I have an annoying rattle, only triggered when going over very uneven surfaces at 30mph+. :thumbsdown:

It sounds like the boot catch is knocking on the striker, but I have adjusted both several times, and also the rubber stoppers, but I cant find the source.

I haven't looked at the plastic trim, or maybe the rear springs/top mounts?

Any suggestions from experience.
 
Does it still do it with the boot cover rolled back? Mine has just developed a rattle, but only does it with the boot cover extended. Can't decide if it's the roller mechanism or the hatch plastics (which are pretty crappily fitted) when they are under tension from the cover. Someone on here mentioned lubricating the roller mechanism with a spray lubricant. I need to get busy shoving bits of cardboard into the panel gaps to see if I can isolate it....

Mine is heard when the cover is extended or stowed, and doesnt make a difference to the frequency in either position.
I think i need to check some of the plastics on the inside of the bootlid, and probably get into the boot and have someone drive me around.
 
SOLVED:
Nothing to do with the rear latch! :headbang:
My exhaust backbox had its weld cracked. So the arm that holds the backbox to the rubber bush was creating the noise, as it was basically hanging there with no rigid support.

So welded it back onto the arm and added a new exhaust rubber, and its silent! :D

Mine had done that! Exhaust used to shake around like a mo-fo :D

Mine creaks a bit at the back, but although it sounds like plastic I'll be out tomorrow to check the exhaust!

From your avatar would I be right in thinking your E86 is Montego Blue like mine? You are only down the road from me (I'm in Sandhurst).

Any plans to go to Newlands Corner on Sunday - it would be good to meet a local coupe owner!

I'm going on Sunday and I live in the neighbouring town to you! It's a small world. Oh and I have a coupe :thumbsup:
