General running costs are not high for the performance the car gives but if you have some control module fail and you take it to your local dealer it can be hugely expensive.
One of my stateside Z4 buddies had an ABS module diagnosed as failed and it was $2000 for a replacement. I suggested he contacted an independent which he did. They told him they could rebuild the module for $150 with 3 months warranty. The repaired module was still going strong when he sold the car.
This site is a good source for keeping running costs down without compromising the car.

i've come from a 330ci convertible, so i guess i'll miss the top down in the hot weather, but for the amount of times its actually worth putting the top down - i'm happy to sacrafice, plus i do motorway driving every day, hence the coupe is better as its quieter (imo of course)
Must just be the drivers that look dated then!!!!!!!!
As to being quieter roof down stereo up...who cares about quietness
