Z4 Coupe 3.0si for 130i with BMWP

Hi all,

No idea if this is of interest to anyone but I'm looking to get in to a Z4 Coupe but do a swap for my existing 130i.

2005 Le Mans Blue
81k miles
Hydraulic steering
BMWP exhaust
BMWP carbon fibre air intake
BMW M handbrake and pedals
Private plate included
FSH and well looked after

Again not sure if anyone will be interested in this but thought that with the rare BMWP goodies it might be tempting for someone looking to make the transition in the opposite direction.

Hi and welcome to the forum OP..

Just a thought, but:
1. Might be an idea, to indicate the exact value, your placing on your 130i?
...Merely, so that you don't sell yourself short, if someone wants to do a swap and the Coupe they have, is of a lesser value than your valuing your car at? Equally, that works the other way too - OBV's
2. I'd add, your approx' location to your post, as it could potentially tempt someone - if they're relatively close to you, location wise..

I had one of these, a good 6/7 years ago and they're a practical and good drivers car :driving:

Good luck with your quest too..

Hey thanks for the response, helpful tips. So I'm based in West Midlands / South Staffordshire area.

As for the value, well it's a difficult one given 130s are generally valued lower than Z4Cs so was looking to see if there's anyone looking to swap based on the fact this is a pretty well sorted 130i with some bits on that you just can't buy any more. I think the chances of finding someone in this situation is low though but you never know.

I love the 130 but just don't really need the practicality and fancy the coupe with the same engine.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You're 6 months too late though!

I sold my 3.0Si Montego Blue Coupe in February and would have been very keen on a deal with a 130i, especially that colour!

Anyway good luck finding the right Coupe.

Thank you Mr Tidy and that is a shame. But at least it shows there are people that may consider a swap? I think it's likely to be a waiting game. Did you buy a 130i after seeing the Z4?

It is, but that's life!

I only sold my 3.0Si Coupe because I had bought an M Coupe in December, so it had to go!

Last year I was looking for a manual E91 330i Touring or a 130i as a daily, but couldn't find either in my budget at the time. So I compromised and bought a manual E90 330i. Luckily it has the optional split/folding rear seats so it will still carry a set of wheels!

But having had a 123d in the past I think a 130i would be a bit more fun on a twisty road than my 330i.

Hopefully you'll find someone who is having to sell a Coupe because they need more seats but still want something that is a bit exciting, although it may be worth posting an advert for your 130i anyway as it might get you into a Z4 Coupe a bit quicker!

Hi Chris, nice car. You must have a price in mind? Advertise it on here in the next section down, someone will want it

Price, ??????????????????????????????????????????/ More people than you think are probably interested,,,,,,,,, more so if there was a PRICE to consider, Stan

Why the big reluctance to post a price? You wouldn't hesitate to turn down an offer of £5k so a price in mind would be helpful. Or are you waiting for offers above........................? :P

Hi there Chris. I’d be willing to consider this. I have a 2008 Montego Blue Z4 Coupe Manual, champagne individual leather, 83,000 miles. Got a few mods, including original style 224 wheels and the short throw gear knob. I’ve overhauled the suspension and cooling systems, together with refurbing the ABS motor. Paintwork has been detailed and quartz coated. I’d consider a swap plus £6k?

Dear chap, may one enquire (on behalf of the OP & other keen Forumites, OBV's), what value your putting on your E86 Coupe, please?

No offence, but your 83k mile Coupe, might potentially have a value of circa £8k to £9.5k, with the mods you've spec'd.
Maybe more, maybe a little less..

However, the point I'm making is - if you did think your cars worth, is £8-9k & was achievable, or more / less...
Your semmingly, not putting a sensible value on the 130i - if, you'd happily swap your car and you would want £6k your way / on top...

Maybe, have a closer look at the numbers again / revise, your figures?
That, or you think your Si Coupe is worth £14/15k..

Best of luck, with the sale of your Coupe..

Cheers

Hi all,

Well everyone seems to be after a price so if selling I'd be after about 6.5-7k with the BMWP parts attached. Bear in mind these can easily fetch about 500 each and are rare as hen's teeth. I could always remove these parts and sell separately, 130i with similar mileage and no BMWP parts fetching around 6k on auto trader right now.

However I'm after a swap: hence why no initial price. Z4C prices are all over the place it seems though I'm not interested in one at 12k plus!

MrTidy was asking 6.5k or so not so long ago. Value wise I'd say my 130i would have been a good candidate for swapping if he was after a good one.

As I said looking for a swap, not to sell then buy. Otherwise I'll wait for next year to do this. The 130i is awesome and happy to stick with it... It is just that I would really prefer a Z4C!

Unfortunately any mods add almost nothing if not absolutely zero to used value, just a fact of life (unless your an 18yr old boy racer looking for a farting focus).
If you still have the original parts I would replace and sell your tuning parts, if you dont have the originals you are a bit stuck....
Spent a small fortune on my 35i, dont expect to profit from the mods though......

Thing is with the BMWP "mods" is they are official BMW, not aftermarket boy racer mods. As I said I could remove them and sell it all separately to get the value. But I am not in a position to do this and just testing the waters for a swap. Otherwise, as I said I'll sell and buy properly next year.

My target audience is admittedly a small one but just look on baby BMW forum to see the value of the BMWP exhaust and air intake.

I’d value it at about £9.5k, but I’m not really sure on the 130i as I didn’t see a value the seller was looking for.

Therefore I made that decision on his behalf based on the information I had. Sometimes it is just better to state the asking price when you are looking to offload something

If I was in the market for one of these then the BMWP ‘upgrades’ would have a bearing on what I’d be prepared to pay. The key for me is that they are BMW upgrades (and expensive ones) rather than Mods per-se.

What’s difficult is to quantify is how much more I’d pay for a car with these upgrades, but it would be less than the cost of the upgrades themselves.

You mention Handbrake, so as a manual it also avoids the horrible road tax bracket the Auto’s fall into.

Always worth a try with an add like this, at one point I was giving serious consideration to moving back into a 125i convertible,.... so you never know
