Z4 convertible front strut brace, yes or no?

John I fitted a cheapo E46 brace and I think it helped the handling also...........£30.00 that's all with some common sense application when fitting.

Thanks very much for all the replies.

I have just fitted a Weichers aluminium strut brace to my coupe and it definitely has a positive impact. When you turn into a corner it feels like you have more to 'lean on', it feels more stable, keener to turn in, purer steering feel and less steering deflection over bumps. I've yet to nail round it a corner due to traffic but I'm pretty sure it has reduced understeer.

For all you N52 owners I can recommend the Weichers brace, I liaised with them and they told me I needed the 3.2 version in aluminium rather than the steel one. It fits perfectly, clearing the air intake and the engine plus oil filler cap. You can get the same shape in carbon too but it's nearly twice the price.

Hello Steve, thanks for the information I'm guessing all N52s (both 2.5 and 3.0) will need the 3.2 brace then? I have been looking at the Wiechers one myself as I thought it looked pretty good and seemed reasonable too. It's good to hear it has had a positive impact. Are you happy with the quality?

Cheers,

Jon.

Sorry Jon, I missed your questions.

Yes, both N52 engines have the same layout as far as I know. The 3.0 Weichers brace is straight across so will block the filler cap and possibly touch the air intake.

The quality is absolutely fine.

Since driving around some more with it I'm convinced it's helped. I can steer from the rear more than I could before as the front end is more tied down. You can feel the suspension working more independently rather than forces being transferred through the chassis.

Yes, definitely. At least my mind seems to think so, anyway!

I have a cosmo racing strut brace on and the front end appears to turn it a lot better than when I didn't have one.

It also looks pretty cool when you open the bonnet

Resurrecting this one,

Been looking at braces for a while however just worried about fitment, guessing you have this one linked below, can you let me know if it was a mission to fit or was it a bolt on exercise.

It was a pretty simple bolt on job  you have the strut tower bits that use the oem nuts, then the horizontal bar which is inserted between the towers and 2 long bolts hold the bar on. It can be a bit of a pain getting these bolts in, but easily manageable with some brute force.

The 2 diagonal bars are simple replacements for the oem bars.

I sold mine on to a member on here a while back, but I could definitely tell the difference in the way my Z4 felt to drive after I had removed it. The front end felt nice and pointy with it fitted. Once removed it felt a bit more lazy to turn in.

ah that a great man! Sounds like a must purchase then!

Did you find it handle better under braking? I find when I brake quote hard the steering moves around a bit...
