I'm on my second Evoque and I have to say I'm still impressed. For the last 10 years my wife and I have spent part of Feb each year in Scotland, mucking about in the Highlands and I'm not going up there without a 4X4 capability. It may be fine for those hardy 2WD locals who drink Irn Bru and eat steel girders for breakfast but I'm just a softy who doesn't want to be found with his toes curled up in a ditch when the snow melts in June.

Here it is posing, suitably grubby in Aviemore with the snow just starting.



The car feels quicker off the line than the official figures suggest, but the the published mpg numbers are a work of fiction. Maybe it's because it's so driveable but I can't get near them. I have a 180bhp 9 speed automatic and Land Rover tell me I should get 46 mpg for urban driving. If I slip into granny mode on a motorway I might just see that momentarily but the car has so much go in it that it doesn't last long. February just gone saw about 44mpg over 1,250 miles, so not the 55 combined mpg I might have seen. Normal town driving settles around 35.

Driving position, like all 4X4's and vans is excellent giving a good view of the road ahead and the car is high on comfort. It doesn't have the adjustable air suspension like it's upmarket siblings but does have a few twiddly options ( HILL DESCENT CONTROL, WADE SENSING, TERRAIN RESPONSE etc) to help improve its off road manners. IMO most off road capability is determined by tyre choice, but they help.

If you're thinking of one take a look at the luggage space. It's not cavernous but you can get more in than you might at first think, and the folding seats are useful for opening this up further.

Not too sure what else I can say. Nothing has fallen off, the styling appeals to me, it's quiet and smooth and big on fun. Oh yes, it's never broken down or had an unscheduled trip to the dealer. Time was when you couldn't have said that about a Land Rover product....................
 
My Z4 23i is my daily now, bit of an upgrade from the old daewoo lanos. The wifes daily is a e90 318i, four doors so nice and practical and bit more economic for our long runs
 
My Z4 coupe has been alone in the garage for the last few weeks since we've sold the Volvo C30, and before, the Smart Fortwo.
The next one is on the way, and is not going to be as discrete as the two before: the Z is welcoming a '67 Mustang V8 hardtop in two weeks!
I figure out that I wanted something special, not maybe as quick or sporty as the Z4, but fun in a - very - different way.
Plus boot space is great and it does have two back seats, ha! :)
Winter drive will be a mix between the two cars, although I am definitely not crazy enough to try the Stang on icy or on salty roads either!

I always fancie an E89 but as they stopped making them in August of 2016 it was my last chance to get a new one. The difference with me is it was to be my daily drive to replace my mini paceman. when the paceman was due to go i looked at the JCW mini but at over 28K it was just too much. The 20L M Sport i got was listed at over 38K but with a delivery milage it came out at 24.6K, a no brainier.
As to my weekend car, well that is a fast car a 2015 Ariel Atom 3.5 245hp, it blows the cobwebs from places you didn't know you had them. these two cars make a perfect pair as there is only my wife and i to concider
 
Although my Zed is, supposedly my weekend toy, I do drive it whenever I can. This includes me planning the cash & carry visits, so that I can go in the Zed, rather than what is effectively, my DD...

That would be my van, a 2009 Fiat Scudo 812 Comfort. I spend most of my time in this, and TBH, it's not that bad a place to be, because, I'm on my own :)

I also specifically sought out one with all the available options, like cruise, air-con, nav and folding mirrors etc. Only downside, is that it's a manual, but it's the 2.0 136 bhp version, so when empty, it doesn't hang around :D

For "family duties" I have an '05 Volvo XC90 SE Auto, the 2.5 diesel. Yup, it's slow, BUT it's probably the safest place for the wife and kids to be if we are out and about. Plus, it's been 100% dependable over the last couple of years and 45,000 odd miles. It's actually the second one we've had, as nothing else remotely attracted me that had 7 seats, AND would swallow a double pram with all those seats up.. However, as the youngest is now 5, and we no longer need the "pram space" I'm looking for something a bit more pokey, but still with 7 seats.. An X5 35 or 40d is calling....

Currently run a Mercedes Benz E250CDI auto estate as my daily driver that works perfectly for a couple of businesses I own.

Bought in Jan 2015 with 28,000 miles and presently sat on 116500 miles - just had it remapped this week, released 40 extra horses under the bonnet and its now a completely different car in terms of driveability.

Overall its been a fantastic car but sadly let down by dishonest sales staff at my local MB dealership that required the intervention of MB HQ in order to rectify a poor sales experience

Drive a Mazda6 2.3ltr Sport for the daily cumute. Sometimes I think it drinks more than the Zed. :o Then I drive the Zed. :lol:

MrsG has a little Renault Clio, that gets lost if it goes more than 2 miles from the house. :wink:
 
Alongside the Z4, I have a 2011 Audi A6 2.0 TDI for trudging up and down the motorway; it's a very pleasant place to be but nowhere as much fun as the Z :D
 
The Zed gets used every day to ferry me to the station which is 11 miles away.

Our other car is a Discovery 3 which we're looking to replace with a Discovery 4. Mrs R uses the Discovery every day and it's the weekend/holiday car so that large hound can come with us.

 
Having recently sold my trusty micra, I now resort to stealing mrs smartbears mini clubman if I need a different car.
When it's hot my bmw bike vies for attention with the zed :driving:

RX8 is my current daily driver and it makes the Z4 look frugal for mpg :cry:
Waiting for a new M140i to replace it which should be fun. Wifey has a 2 series Active Tourer which is a good all rounder for shopping/work/picking up the grandkids.
Most on here seem to run two cars and the Zed is often a weekender.
 
My Zed was my DD until my Grandson was born a couple of years ago.
Needed a cheap 4 door runabout for Grandad duties but ended up buying a 6 month old Smart Forfour "Edition1". Knew it was a marmite car when I bought but fits my needs perfectly. No Road Tax and no London CC and perfect for my stop/start commute. The car is fully loaded with touchscreen nav/media which along with the soundsystem puts the Zeds to shame.
Much happier parking this in our work car park on Exhibition days when it is crammed full of exhibitors cars and vans.

I also went for the understated interior. :D



 
Used to be Z4 as daily, bike for weekend fun and trackdays, but changes of circumstance mean my bike got sold and the zed is now the daily and weekend toy :driving:

Slightly off topic but I drove a Nissan Leaf the other week and was well impressed with it as an urban run about. Roomy, well specced and good acceleration up to 30 m p h.

I must be sickening for something serious :)

No second DD for me my Zed is my DD and at a 36 mile round trip to work each day it does very well, especially when you think that when I had my old Zed I ran and old Ford Escort. But then my old "Zed" was a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and returning only 18mpg on a good day 8)
My wife does run a Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost which is a nice little pocket-rocket. :driving:
